The series will continue to be simplified until there isn't anything left.
I can only sum this game up as an unpleasant experience in an otherwise interesting series.

Never have I liked a game enough to go through as an abusive of a relationship with it as I have with this game. For some people it's "fine", but this game is borderline unplayable with the amount of bugs that repeatedly erase base/planet/character progress for me. For every hour you have fun, prepare for the progress to be erased within hours or maybe even days. From bases I've spent hours working on completely despawning parts of it, to even ships completely de-registering me as their owner and with the latest update, even entire planets completely changing their core attributes over night. This game robbed people's wallets with dishonestly at launch with the promise of the interesting concept of space exploration, and has now turned to robbing people's time with the immense amount of bugs and core mechanic breaks.
