Valheim enveloped my life and cocooned me for roughly sixty hours for the mere price of $20.

My only regrets are playing the game too fast, and the fact that I choose to do so when it wasn't finished. This game has a mountain of untapped potential and a great 'vibe' to it throughout. It's the first game in ages that I've played with multiple family members, even my mother who isn't necessarily a 'gamer' but will dabble if it's easy enough and interests her.

Well worth your consideration and time if you enjoy building and exploration.

I bought this game on a gut feeling - Devolver has been releasing a nice streak of unique indie titles recently. After loving Valheim, I was feeling more apt to taking risks.

So I bought the game and it languished on my desktop.

Two days later I launched it and lost three afternoons of my life to THE LOOP.

This game sort of plays itself, with your very essential input to determine the outcome of each "LOOP". You go in, you kill stuff, kill a boss, upgrade gear and essentially head back and upgrade your main base and progress the story.

It's a wonderful little game. I love the 'feeling' of it down to the graphics with the old fonts and the attempts to mimic a CRT style monitor.

Truly a fun little gem. Something I can't wait to get back to when more content is added down the line.

If you enjoy melee combat in the style of Chivalry or Mount and Blade, you'll love this evolution of the combat design. This game out of the gate is a blast to play, runs well, and is largely everything I've ever wanted in a game - to wield medieval weaponry like a lunatic and it makes it feel *great*.

Highly recommended if you enjoy melee combat games. I suspect this game will only get better and better - particularly with it's surprising success at launch.

A rich and detailed card game which mimics a traditional card game. One of the few - if not the only - games in which there is a *free draft mode*. I love drafting - it's always behind a microtransaction price.

Buyer does need to beware - as of yet - there isn't any progression in the game. You play for your own enjoyment - which is a good thing that the game is fun as hell and only likely to get better.

This is a great game to play for small bursts of time while also being fulfilling during that time and not "grindy".

The game is an odd mix of rougelike with a card building system for abilities - you have a deck that you constantly cycle through to cast your spells and abilities. You get one character and you got as far as you can - gaining gold which you can use to by cards to modify your deck, single use potions to do all sorts of things, or artifacts which are permanent buffs/modifiers to gameplay.

My only gripes are that I want more content - more! more! more!

Full disclosure - I didn't play Bloodline Champions, I wasn't paid to post this nor did I receive any kickbacks, and I purchased this of my own accord during early access.

Simply put - this game is skill, distilled. If you found yourself in a MOBA match, about 40 minutes in, wishing for it to be over because your teammates are trash and you are just wasting time - you have something to enjoy with Battlerite.

Each game is a small less than 5 minute affair - if you are stuck with trolls or jerks - don't worry - they'll be gone soon.

You pick a character, they've got a range of abilities that are well defined without egregious RNG involved, and you fight ot the death in an arena. It almost seems to simple - but that is the beauty of it. The game is incredibly challenging and fun.

The CONS however...

The UI seems like it's made for both PC and Console - so there are some odd choices on where menus are stored in the UI.

The game can be incredibly frustrating because when you lose, you've rarely got anybody to blame outside of yourself or your teammate.

-----------------

It's not free to play, you don't have much to lose, give it a shot.

Don't let the "Not Recommended" review fool you too much - you might enjoy this game. I will say that while overall I do not recommend it to everyone, if you are a fan of tabletop games, miniature wargames (Warhammer 40k, Warmachines, Infinity, etc) you very well might love this game. I did for awhile, and then the lustre wore off. It was certainly worth the $7 I ended up paying for it. I do not feel cheated out of my money and enjoyed my time with it.

Basic Mechanics - the most basic rundown of the mechanic is that each unit has "strength" which is the number of dice you roll when you attack - and if you attack in melee your enemy hits you back for his "strength" in dice. These dice rolls are compared, and whoever has more hits does that much damage to the other. Ranged attacks, and some special attacks allow you to roll dice unopposed. The dice, as of typing this, are 50/50 chance to hit or miss. Six sides, with a miss, miss, miss, hit, hit, hit + morale (morale are points you use to fuel abilities).

PROS
- A nice representation of a miniature wargame on a table. The models look nice, and the aesthetic works.
- The game plays smoothly without a deluge of bugs, keep in note it still is early access though. There are many quirks and language errors that pop up, but overall the game has been incredibly playable since day one of it's early access release.
- Enjoyable tactical gameplay with a low entry cost.
- A pack opening/loot system which in it's current form isn't too obtrusive or pay to win. Devs have stated that they do not like the idea of any pay to win systems in the game.

However, the downsides are ultimately why I cannot give it a full thumbs up.

- The game relies on random dice without much of a way to influence them. There are abilities and cards you can use in battle, but they often just add more dice - to which your chance to hit on a dice roll is still 50/50. In short, this means that your enemy can play poorly, but still win on his dice rolls and while you may have set yourself up for a victory, the dice can sway the other way and your plan will quickly fall apart. In a way, this game is about making the best of totally uncertain situations. It's 50/50 between tactics and luck, and luck can destroy your tactics. That said, the better reactionary player will still win - you just need to be creative. This game ends up being twists and turns of luck and abusing the mechanics that reduce your chance of failure. In it's current form, this is what drives me away from this game the most. There needs to be more mechanics in the game to allow certainty.

- Low playerbase, which in a niche game like this doesn't seem like it'll ever truly blow up. This is alleviated by the fact that the developers have included bots in the game to play against with the guise that they aren't labeled bots and try to mimick players names. Only after realizing certain enemies made incredibly odd choices did I realize this game included bots.

- While not pay to win, each unit has a Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary tag on it. Common units can only level up so many times, whereas the others have a higher level cap. This higher level cap gives these units more movement speed, more armor, and an extra ability - which is going to be a big deal down the line. To me, this sort of muddies the waters for long term progression. People are going to get a bit miffed when they come up against somebody with all leveled Epic units, as even +1 armor means quite a bit in this game.

Do some researching into this type of game and see what you think for yourself. It has potential, but I believe it needs quite a bit of working to make it palatable to a decent sized audience.

I don't want to totally pan it however, because I do believe tabletop games turned digital can be quite fun and I certainly got my monies worth for this purchase.

Atlas Reactor is a great new game with a player friendly transaction model.

Take a fast paced, turn based game - which usually isn't the case. Mix it up with an interesting and customizable cast of characters, and you get Atlas Reactor.

The game exists somewhere between a MOBA/Final Fantasy Tactics/XCom style gameplay.

It's all done on a grid in a 4v4 arena with powerups scattered around. Each team takes their turns at once, 20 seconds for the entire team, and then the actions resolve. Abilities are considered Prep, Dash, or Blast and then "Move" in that order of resolution.

For example,
You start your turn, buff your damage in the Prep phase to lay a huge blast on the enemy. He chooses to use a dash ability which moves him out of the way before the Blast phase when you actually fire.

The game has a ton of interplay and a high ceiling for teamplay.

As for the economic model - the game is free to play with a changing cast of free to play characters each week. You can play for free forever and never be at a disadvantage - you cannot buy power at all. Only cosmetics.

At first I assumed you would receive a currency per match which was used to buy characters. This is not the case. The free to play version is simply a limited version that allows you to play, but on their terms.

Before release, the basic version of the game is $20 - it'll go up to $30 after release. A special package exists with more skins, but doesn't offer anything that will change the gameplay - just skins.

So that's it - a nice little package of a game that is incredibly fast paced, requires tactics and teamwork, and isn't full of artificial P2W / F2P garbage.

The downsides at the moment are minimal - mainly optimization which isn't too bad as the game is turn based, and then queue times can be a bit rough at first as the community and game is just starting out. That said, I'm still able to get games at 2am PST here in the USA, so it isn't too bad. Servers are likely global as well due to the turn based nature of the game.

I hope to see more out of Atlas Reactor - it's a brilliant re-imagining of what would typically be a tabletop game into the PC game genre. A brilliant little offering from Trion who I haven't had much experience with previously.
