One of the best games ever made. Characters, story, gameplay and rpg mechanics are among the best in the genre. I especially love that if youre good at the game, you can take on hard fights at a low level. I enjoyed the challenge and getting rewarded with strong pictos afterwards.

Game of the year for the next 5 years

Edit: The hype has died down, updates are slow and most of the negative reviews are pretty accurate. It's hard not to compare Wilds to Worlds and Rise. There was a sense of moving forward in both the latter, upgrading mantles, improving camp resources, improving cooking ingredients for better buffs etc. Where World and Rise was fun to sink 80+ hours base game, base Wilds feel incredibly unrewarding after 20 hours. There's almost no magic in the deco farming. No new builds besides pushing raw damage. There's just nothing to do anymore besides wait and hope Capcom cooks. Maybe we're all too good at the game but I remember carting to diabolos before even farming the Big Bad Nerg.

Edit again: Devs listen to players, Game is fun again

Admittedly, this has to be one of the best games ever made. The best way to experience the game is to have played it through its various updates in the past in my opinion. Playing online, trying to beat behemoth extreme for the first time had to be one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had. Please buy the game, learn it and enjoy the new game in 2025 to its fullest. You heard it here first.

I love the game but I cant recommend this to anyone who hasnt played it and can scarcely recommend it to players who plan to play it for nostalgia. The game runs so badly that you cant enjoy it to its fullest. Very sad. Wish people can play it to see the soul that games used to have :(

Might legitimately be one of the best games ever made. I dont even like souls like games but theres no element in this game worth complaining about.

This is the review to end all reviews. To newcomers, this will probably be one of the best JRPG games you'll ever play in your lifetime. To long time Tales fans, this game will heavily disappoint you from a developers standpoint, but will also be the best tales game you will ever play. Thats not to say the game itself deserves bad reviews even though I agree with most of what the bad reviews say.

This is the first Tales game that I played. I am heavy on rpg games and I can reassure anyone that plans to purchase the game, BUY IT.

The gameplay is phenomenal. I daresay perfect. There are so many elements at play and all of them are really well thought out. The progression of gameplay evolves as you go through the story too. Most reviews are complaining that the progression is too grindy. I'm playing it at the second hardest mode and I find it an acceptable amount of grindy. I've only learned how to play the game as the main character. If that style doesnt suit you, there are 5 other characters to learn with their own unique mechanics. The lifetime of this game is so long! I can easily see myself putting in over 100 hours.

The story is more than decent but not good enough for me to say its great (I have not beaten it at this point though). It moves at such a good pace that it'll never get boring. I really enjoyed the adventure the characters experience too. A lot of different setting with their own twist of hardship. The characters are interesting enough by themselves and great when you foil them together. Bonus points for the voice acting too, I simp for Rimwell's english dub.

To address the bad reviews - I have never played another tales game so I dont really know what essential skills ppl are referring to thats locked behind DLCs. As far as I'm concerned, I had more than what I asked for while playing through the game and being able to experience more skills through DLCs makes sense to me.
The game is hard enough to require the use of items which I think is great. Yah making money to buy them is a little tough and yah you can only hold 15 but I really believe anymore than that would break the game and you'd be able to beat it in a few, dull hours. The game is perfectly hard and if you don't like that, they give you the option to spend $2 for a lot of money. Literally not worth complaining about lmaoo
Its annoying to see how hard the devs are advertising their DLC while you camp though. Its so in your face that I almost feel objectified. Like I'm some kind of cash cow with disposable income hah.. :(

Seriously, buy the game and enjoy. :) Top 5 RPG games with FFX, God of War, Octopath Traveler, Nier Automata cuz im a 2B simp

I finally beat my first playthrough after a grueling 19 hours.. on easy mode lol.

I was impressed with how intricate the turn based battle system was. It was a little bit of a steep learning curve but with how monotonous many turn based games are, this was worth the time. All heroes and monsters share an attack bar and depending on how long it takes to put out an attack, the action you take will put you ahead or behind enemy attacks. Attacking first gives you attack bonuses ofc and you can even push back the enemy attacks into the next turn. This leaves you with decisions on who will take hits/dish out damage making team comps very important. It's all very hectic at times but rewarding when things are planned out correctly.

The story is lacking and the characters are forgettable. In fact, unlocking new characters are just reskins of already existing characters. The move pool is pretty balanced; no single move will carry you through the fights. The level up system is pretty brutal where you have pooled EXP and you have to decide who to level up. Equipment can make a huge difference but is so scarce that by the end of a playthrough you can have level 3 gear on your max level 10 hero. The roguelike aspect of the game is okk. They purposefully make it slow progressing so that multiple playthroughs are required and hence increases playability. Personally, I need a balance of progression and replayability; After 19 hours I wish I had unlocked more stuff and that's because I want the team comps to evolve with each playthrough.

This is a good game. Really well thought out and has very good mechanics as an RPG. Not game of the year material but still worth your money and time. :)

Hello readers, I finished all the endings to this game in about 30 hours. So for those of you who have never played a game by Yako Taro, it requires multiple and in this case monotonous playthroughs. Each playthrough immerses you deeper into the lore and character building. For those who have played Yako Taro's games, namely Nier automata, I super highly recommend this game.

So, that aspect of the game aside, here's a quick spoiler free summary of my opinions of the game:

The overall gameplay is pretty flat. Hack and slash different versions of the same 4-5 enemies basically. The different magics you can use at your disposal and the slew of weapons you can upgrade do nothing to help that. There are a system of "words" you can equip on your weapon to give it slight stat boosts/passives; similarly to how materia is used in final fantasy 7. But the enemies are so redundant and easy that the few seconds it takes to equip them makes it seem like a waste of your time. Quite honestly I was disappointed.

I didnt quite like the plot either. The content wasn't seriously interesting and the game did little to make you feel invested. To make it worse, it moved pretty slowly.

So why do I recommend this game? It's a little hard to explain but I can tell you by the end of the game (meaning the last playthrough) I felt like the game was thoroughly complete and left me with a good experience. They achieved this solely through game design and creating such memorable/unique characters. The story wasn't simply laid out for you to finish in one go. There were elements to the game that were purposefully and skillfully hidden from the player. Slowly sprinkling new pieces of the puzzle to the convoluted plot that you didnt even know existed. When all is said and done, you recall your experience of the game being boring but meaningful and worth it. I know it makes no sense at all but that's just what Yako Taro's specialty is. And the characters. Kainé. Emil. Oh man how I love these characters. While the protagonist does what protagonists do, your companions make the adventure so much more dynamic and meaningful. Their story is as important to the experience playing the game as the entirety of the plot. Anyways, I hope I didn't turn too many of you away from buying the game. Its hard to write a review of why I love the game without spoiling that very reason. But if you buy the game and finish it I'd love to talk about it more in detail.
