This game has really recovered from rocky beginnings. Hello Games deserves praise for their dedication to a project that most companies would have given up on after such initial disaster. At the time of writing I have only scratched the surface of the game but I'm planning out crafting my first ship from scratch with nothing less than giddiness. I love seeing all the unique planets and organisms! I originally was concerned about the language system but I think it's well implemented, so don't roll your eyes at it immediately.

All in all, very fun game!

Bought this game on my PC, noticed it didn't run well (my computer kind of sucks), so I returned it and bought it on Switch. It's still letting me write a review on Steam, though, so let's go.

This game is extremely good. Not only is the gameplay very refined, with interesting platforming and varied combat as you progress and unlock more abilities, run into new enemies, and get more pins; the storytelling and overall atmosphere of the game is gorgeous. Oftentimes I noticed myself holding my breath as I walked into a new room and the music lulled to a quiet hush and the background grew soft and unfocused, putting me at perfect unease for what came ahead. The game is difficult, yes, but it feels fair enough for me to want to try that bossfight one more time because I know I was the one who made the error.

There are a perfect number of collectibles and challenges to give the game a nice amount of replayability and motivate one to explore a little more. Even if you aren't one to want to find all the hidden pins, dream bosses, and grubs, the hunter's book is a nice little treat that makes you want to stop and kill a bunch more enemies to fill its pages. And of course the coliseums give a nice challenge, especially if you haven't gotten all the abilities yet.

I don't even need to mention the visuals, really. They're just breathtaking. (Did you know everything is hand drawn?)

All in all, this game is amazing and has quickly risen to one of my favorite indie games of all time. I can't wait for the sequel!
