This is why I love (Post)Hardcore/Metalcore/Deathcore. Because it's the most insanely diverse genre on the planet occupied by the most talented people on the planet.

The point to singing is not so people understand what you're singing about. It's easy to imagine that the first singing was done with hums and yelling before using words, neanderthal-style. And I like the singing of birds but I can't quite get a handle on what the ♥♥♥♥ they're singing about.

I hear this criticism all the time and i really don't get it. Singing/screaming isn't always about conveying the lyrics, it's about emotion. It doesn't get more raw than this. I also consider it to be another instrument on top of the mix as opposed to the vehicle that delivers lyrics to me.

And for people that hate it because of the vocals, you aren't really supposed to understand what's being said. Hard/metal core is (was) a counter culture movement. Everything about the music was supposed to be extreme and off putting. It is not supposed to be the kind of music you play at a party and dance to. I personally don't listen to the music for the vocals, but it's hard to imagine having the same impact without them
