I haven't played a game this much in years. An absolute gem. Being able to link up the evidence and solve the crime in your own way is very cool. Found myself really engrossed. It does need to be fleshed out a bit more. It's almost always a co-worker that is the murderer. I did have one case where I was absolutely stumped for hours but I can honestly say that was my favourite case. The 'eureka!' moment when I solved it was hard to beat and the dahlia-like riddles kept me hooked for ages! Looking forward to seeing the future of this game!

Genuinely feel like I've only scratched the surface of what this game has to offer. If I had to compare it I would say it is Minecraft-esque with PS2-like graphics and a viking theme but don't be fooled the monsters are not on the same level as Minecraft and this game feels far more complex and harder. The building and crafting system is phenomenal for an early access game. Remember beware the trees. Definitely recommend this game.

More maps and more than 4 player co-op especially for the bigger maps would make this more fun but it's a pretty solid game that provides plenty of spooks. I haven't tried playing on public servers only with friends but I don't think it would be as fun as hearing your friends panicking because the ghost is hunting.

From an Irish duke I became a one-legged, disfigured king of Ireland. This is teaching me that to get anywhere you need to end up a complete mess. 10/10

Civilization VI Overview

Civilization VI is the latest installment of Sid Meier’s Civilization series.

Similar to previous installments, the goal for the player is to develop a civilization from an early settlement through many millennia to become a world power and achieve one of the 6 victory conditions including military domination, science, culture, religion, score, and finally diplomacy which is only an available victory type after purchasing the Gathering Storm DLC.

So now that we’ve gotten the brief overview out of the way let’s move onto the game’s pro's and cons.

Pro’s:
  • Inspiring and flavourful mechanics that change things up compared to previous games in the series.
  • Knowing advantages and disadvantages in combat is practically essential
  • Civilization Agenda's are an interesting way to ensure different Civilizations react differently to each other rather than a wave of denouncing from all civilizations.
  • This Civilization game takes more advantage of the map now that settling many cities is pretty much essential to playing this game whereas you could get away with far fewer in Civilization V
  • Dominating the world actually genuinely means dominating the world rather than 3 powerhouse cities with buckets of wonders like in Civ V
  • 2 Fantastic DLC packs and the New Frontier Pass being released on May 21st which will include new DLC every 2 months and more support for the next year which is exciting
  • Districts are a fantastic new feature that make the games interesting and more balanced
  • Ghandi still loves the idea of Nuclear Armageddon.
Con’s
  • Subjectively speaking this game feels harder to master when compared to Civilization V
  • Units do not dramatically differ from V
  • Victory types are mostly the same or similar to Civ V with the exception of Religion
  • Religion Victory seems the most pointless unless every other Civilization forgets about their own religion and going to war with another player will give their military units the ability to ‘condemn’ (AKA instantly kill) your religious units so be aware of surprise wars if you happen to have a lot of apostles as they can be easily wiped out but as their costs continually increase based on how many you produce it can take a lot longer to gain back your religious units if at all.
  • Bugs! Bugs galore! Thanks to the fantastic modding community present on Civilization VI this problem is mostly a non-issue. Downloading the Pantheon Exploit Hotfix from the workshop is an essential though if you intend to host a multiplayer game and I would advise only joining a game that has the Pantheon Exploit Hotfix enabled as it is such a heavily abused bug.

Final Opinion
Overall I highly recommend Civilization VI for the fresh direction it has taken in the Civilization series. I also highly recommend that if you are still playing Civilization 5 that now is the time to transfer and get in on the Civilization 6 action especially with the upcoming New Frontier Pass.

Can you build a Civilization that will stand the test of time?

What an absolute gem! 10/10

Story

Absolutely amazing storyline - Basically a visual novel/like reading a book.
While you do find 'datachunks' (as they are called which are bits of information you can add to your case) they are highlighted making it not so detective-y and more story-like

HOWEVER,

There is diverging storylines. What you decide to upload to Orwell does affect how the story plays out and changes details of the story with 4 types of endings (If I'm correctly aware) I have played through it twice going through it once very carefully and on the other side purposefully causing chaos and leaving destruction in my wake.

Gameplay

Very simplistic browser-like gameplay.
Do not play this game if amazing graphics are a must and you hate reading. I'm afraid this is not the game for you.
If you like reading books and you like sci-fi / big brother / surveillance / political dystopian future sort of style this is most definitely a game for you.
Do not go into this game expecting to be wowed by the way you play it. Go into this game like you're about to read a story but you get to make the decisions that affect that story.

Music

Now where do I start? I absolutely love the music. It's amazing the decisions you make also affect the music and I absolutely love it when you come across something interesting that the music changes to accomodate that. If you find that music can affect your emotions and feelings then the music will intensify the story for you making you really feel immersed and totally part of this story like you personally know the characters instead of being this robotic-like investigator who's playing a click-and-drag simulator.

Overall Conclusion

This is the overall conclusion of the game and I'll start with questions.

  • Do you like books and reading?
  • Do you like very story-driven games?
  • Do you appreciate feeling-enhancing music and sound effects that follow the storyline and change accordingly?
  • Do you like click-and-drag games or mind playing them for the sake of a good story?
Then this game I am personally reccommending for you!

  • Do you always go for amazing graphics over storyline?
  • Do you go for gameplay over story?
  • Do you prefer fast-paced action rather than long drawn out experiences?
  • Are you not emotionally connected when reading?

I'm sorry to say it but this game is not for you.

It all comes down to what kind of person you are. Your likes and dislikes when playing games. I really enjoyed this game as a book-lover myself and what absolutely reccommend it to anyone who appreciates that type of game.

Two words. Music Paradise.

If you like bopping along to your music while you play your video games why not play a video game that allows you to bop along to the music while you play your music. The ingenious idea of creating a music track that you can drive along and witness every beat is such an amazing and original concept that this game deserves a buy just for something original on Steam.

If you like your music. If you find yourself singing or dancing along to the your favourite songs. This is the game for you.

To start this review I just want to say that I absolutely loved this game to bits. This is probably the best it gets when it comes to the Tropico series in my opinion. The one downside is it lacks any meaningful and worthwhile multiplayer aspect which could have been incredibly fun to compete in. On the other hand the campaign was fantastic and I enjoyed it. The sandbox mode is also fun, giving you the freedom to build your great dictatorship without any objective to work towards beside your own free will.

I recommend this game to anybody who enjoys the strategy/building genres.
