There isn't any other game quite like OSRS. It is an open-world retro MMO with many skills to level, bosses to fight, and quests to complete. It is fairly simple in its controls and most of its mechanics, but it can still offer challenging and complex gameplay. There is no central storyline to complete in favor of smaller quests to build the world, focusing more on story and puzzles than just running around and killing stuff. The game has a lot of content to explore and what you go for is really up to what you want to do.
That said, the game won't be for everyone. As a retro MMO, some of its designs may feel outdated or overly punishing. Some goals like maxing all skills can take 100s or even 1000s of hours, but those grinds aren't something the game requires and instead something the players choose to do. Though if you are looking to just train up and start doing endgame bosses, it may still be more of a time investment than other games. The saying it's the journey, not the destination often applies very well to OSRS.
For the gameplay itself, RS has always managed to be deceptively simple. There is a lot to the game that can engage players like quests or bosses, but a lot of it, mainly training, can be done casually without a lot of focus, making it a good game to work at while doing other things. But if that is not your style, there are more attentive ways to train that are often more rewarding. This can make the game appeal to both casual and competitive players.
The game is also very community-driven. Most content updates are discussed with players beforehand for feedback and then polled to the players requiring 75% approval to pass. Even if something isn't polled, the OSRS Team will be listening to player feedback to influence the design. The game has grown a lot over the past 8 years and while it may not always feel the same as early RS2 like it did at the start, it still manages to find that old school vibe while offering a lot of new content, kind of like a new, faithful expansion to an old favorite game.
