I recently upgraded to a new PC and with the show on prime I felt like playing fallout 4 again.
I purchased the GOTY bundle to fully experience the game only to find out that, sadly, the game has issue with modern architectures.

Within just a couple of hours I had all sort of bugs. Loading times taking about 2/5 minutes, screen flickers, weird bugs where I suddenly have a black frame around the game.

I'm on 2 TB of SSD, a Geforce 4060TI and I need to waste my time messing with .ini of the game, scrounging the internet to find the community mods that can somewhat fix a game that recently received a "next gen update" to fix well known bugs (the threads about this sort of things were opened YEARS ago).

I can no longer justify these performance issues in a Bethesda game. Since the days of Morrowind's constant crashes, Bethesda has grown into an industry giant. They are far from a small indie company (and frankly, small indie developers care more about their game's performance than Bethesda does).

Bethesda devs, Todd, how can you justify that your players must rely on community mods to make the game playable? Without the community doing your job your games would be almost, if not entirely, unplayable for many.

I'm very disappointed. Shame on you bethesda.

I absolutely adore AK's works — his writing, his distinct style. I was captivated by CS and found it absolutely mesmerizing. Now, BoH is enchanting and filled with his amazing style and writing... But the game itself has a few issues.

Most of the game involves waiting. This isn't just about waiting for timers but also waiting for days hoping for that somewhat random memory or event.
Another issue I have is that the game demands you to recall way too much. You find yourself reading and re-reading again and again the same books and items you already read and inspected multiple times because you simply can't remember which one you need.
Currency seems kinda wasted since (at least so far) there is no way to spend it other then hiring assistent. Would be nice maybe to be able to buy some new item like food or low level crappy ink to make the beginning less slow and the empty days less boring.

Another thing is that I really miss the sense of dread and mysterious impending doom from CS. I get it, BoH has a slower, more relaxed pace... but there is a castle to explore, so mysterious and promising, and yet the magic in the air feels a bit vague. I really wish there was more to it.

So right now at a week from release the game feels a tad unripe. But I remain hopeful. I trust Weather Factory to keep refining the game. I'll continue to support them, believing that they'll polish this game into the masterpiece it has the potential to be.

I'm just gonna say that there is a whole side story dedicated to one of the weapons used in SC that is linked by an important piece of history of the world, the birth the of the whole enemy organization and an apocalyptic disaster.

If you want to see good world building play this game.

Of course you MUST play the first two and be advised that this game is somewhat more on the dungeon crawling side rather than JRPG with many short non-interactive almost (and sometimes completely) visual novel parts. This could be somewhat disappointing but if you like this serie you'll probably enjoy this game too.

World building, dialogues, characters. Writing.
If that's what you are looking for in a JRPG then this game and more generally speaking this whole serie is for you.

Gameplay wise it's an absolutely pleasant game but it has some "sturdiness", especially in the way it handles side quest which are locked behind plot point meaning that if you go too further with the plot you will fail or completely miss them. Luckly though, they are all extremely optional and the game is quite generous on how you advance in your grades meaning that even if you fail/miss many of them you won't lose any big reward from the guild.
This is really the only thing I would call a flaw in this game but it could be dismissed by the fact that I don't particularly love backtracking.

Other than that, now that I finally played the third game I can say that this serie has undoubtedly the best world building I've ever seen in a JRPG if not in a videogame. Every aspect of the nation, of its story, everything it tells is throughly explored in an absolutely pleasant way.

It's an extraordinary journey that will get you closer and closer by its characters at every step.

In conclusion Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is absolutely a must play for every lover of good JRPG.

Ritual of the Night is the true come back to the origins of the metroidvania genre.

For those unfamiliar with the gameplay of the genre: think of Dark Souls (especially the first) but in 2d.
Remember exploring firelink shrine the very first time and going right to the cemetery only to find out that you were not prepared for that area and at some point you probably couldn't even progress because you lacked the right item? That's basically what a metroidvania is: a big, maze-like einvironment with lot of secrets, plenty of diverging paths that sometimes are simply dead end until you obtain the item you needed.

In the metroidvania case we are usually talking about an item that in some way modify the way your character moves.
It's like a lock and key system but much more interactive, interesting and entertaining.

Beside exploration you have an action RPG system with a plethora of weapons, combo and magic, all accompanied by exquisite backgrounds, great enemies design and beautifully composed music.

Ritual of the Night is this and much more. Right now the game offers a great adventure of at least 10 hours (but still it took me 18 to get a 100%), customization, new game+, boss rush mode, speed run mode, 2 unlocked difficulties after the first game completion and the creator of the game promised 13 free DLC with new characters, multiplayer mode and much more.

The game isn't without flaws. To be fair, I could talk about how little innovations there are from IGA's previous games or how the shard/soul system is all in all less appealing than the simple yet greatly effective SOTN system where upgrades were built on top of the others but all in all these are all minor flaws in a truly great game that comes so close to being an absolute masterpiece.
