After more extensive playtime, Quaver has kinda been ruined from the get-go. Mappers on this game prefer difficulty over the feel of the map. PianoLuigi dominates the map list and most of his maps have plenty of notes that go against the feeling / tempo of the song. Songs that would have ~130 bpm sections would instead have persistent 1/6 or 1/8 stairs and jumpstreams that would be almost triple the BPM.

Let's take a look at Ata - Euphoria, mapped by the great Andere. According to the sound of the song, this map should be filled to the brim with 1/6 jumpstreams and handstreams / chordstreams. And that's what we get! That's what the map should have!

..and then some. The map contains jacks for absolutely no reason--the jack pattern should strictly only occur when there's repeats of a beat in quick succession, for example, in Kurokotei's Galaxy Collapse before the calm sections. In times like those, 1/6 or 1/8 bursts / jacks could easily be used there.

Another standing issue in Euphoria is right after 01:24. There's an ambience trill to complement the dystopia feeling of the music, as if you were in a crime-plagued futuristic setting. Instead of keeping track to the primary beat of the music which was still present at the time, Andere chooses to map the trill instead of the primary beat, even though the beat is more prominent than the ambience, which makes no sense. The ambience then becomes more prominent later in the beat which is portrayed through long notes and 1/6 bursts throughout the map. Cool and good. There are also plenty of cases where long notes should not have been used, but I'm tired and I don't want to bring it up. You can see it for yourself.

Now, let us look at two more maps. Both by PianoLuigi, the King (or queen) of uncomfortable maps. First off being Himeringo - Idola no Circus [RA TA TA TAI]

It has an absolutely FANTASTIC start. All of the notes correlate to the beats in the music, the start feels natural and it feels glorious to play. Then comes 0:20, where the vocals come in. There are plenty of 1/6 bursts in the vocals which should've instead have been mapped by long notes and complemented by notes that correspond to the instrumental, but I can cut some slack. What is unacceptable, however, is whatever 0:25 to 0:27 is. The notes within that section are three times the speed of the song, and doesn't point out any detail to the instrumental of the song. The same thing goes for every single mini-solo during the breaks within vocals. God, please, I beg you PLEASE, don't let this song have a long solo. Some bursts are perfectly okay because the guitarists used a damn whammy bar for some of their solos, but the majority are no bueno.

..oh god.

..oh no.

PLEASE GOD NO

OH GOD

There's a long ass solo at one of the apexes of the song, specifically 1:00. PianoLuigi put absolutely no care into the formation of this map, it's just a long-ass note dump that at first glance goes very well with the song, but over thorough review manages to overpower the strong beat of the song. And the majority of it is super uncomfortable to play.

The vocals are pointed out through the formation of the notes, that's the only point I can possibly give them. Nothing more. Onto the next demon.

This last map is going to be super short, primarily due to my laziness, but overall, this is a good map but highly uncomfortable to play, a heritage of the majority of PianoLuigi's maps.

We Could Get More Machine Gun Psystyle by God Himself, Camellia. [FREAKING JUMPING BEANS!]

This map is pretty neat! Excluding the trills. Why are the trills there? Sure, they portray the style and speed of the map very well, but they're super uncomfortable to play when topped off with a note pair (two notes next to each-other on the same beat). Instead, what I feel would be a better pattern would be a 1/8 burst paired with trills and topped with a pair. Replacing that with the current pattern would primarily make the map feel leagues better, and would also increase the difficulty.

Maps are supposed to flow from pattern to pattern whilst being difficult and sticking to the tempo / style of the song. Dumping notes and placing them randomly and dabbling a little bit of jacks in there isn't the way to go. That's the lazy way to do it. One thing I can give osu! over Quaver is that mappers spend a lot of time fine-tuning their map and ensuring flow and comfortability whilst keeping the map fun and hard to play. AsherZ2007 (sorry, looks better then Asherz2007) brings this from osu! into Quaver. Sure, some maps like The Limit Does Not Exist feel a bit iffy at some points especially with the bursts, but in majority the maps he/she puts out feel extremely good to play. If we can steal that talent from osu! and somewhat Etterna, Quaver would take strides.

I feel like the issues I have with the current maps would definitely be cured with further development into Quaver, so this is just my current opinion on the current map pool that quaver has at the moment.

I can't not recommend this game for an issue with the community as if it's something that Quaver could control, so I still recommend the game. The only Quaver-related issue is that it's missing some QOL features and Borderless mode is still broken, but other than that, it's a solid game.

Bonus: Yomu Yori.

♥♥♥♥ Yomu Yori. That's all.

good game

BY THE WAY: The final boss has a bug and doesn't make you hit an autosave trigger after you beat her. Meaning if you die without saving, you will get sent back to the third phase of the final boss.

Please, make sure you save after beating her.
