There is no better space game, anyone who says otherwise is coping.

It's hardly even a game with such a heavy focus on simulation.

Incredible RP game, open ended experience, do what you want, be who you want; its driven by you.

Historically, FDEV have been known to bungle a few things but the game in its current state, is better than ever before. There has been a lot of really meaningful content added to the game recently with better attention to detail and what the players want than ever.

The game basically just got an overhaul in a lot of really important areas recently (of the time of the review)
I've played elite since the early days, this is my third elite account, two steam accounts and an xbox account. It has taken me years to get to the point I'm at now where I know all the things, I have all the things (mostly) and I'm at a point that I would call competent, more than the average.
I watched the game go from ship only to on ground content etc. The journey has been amazing and even though its a game that, admittedly, I love to hate sometimes, I can say those things because I know there is ZERO competition. if you're looking for a space sim, this is THE space sim.

You can find plenty to complain about in any game but how many of them are a 1:1 ratio of our known universe...

If you're reading this, for some reason, with little to no knowledge of the game, or perhaps you're unsure whether you should try it because it seems "complex" this is your call out, its time to hop on board CMDR; don't let the high learning curve put you off what will likely be the most expansive game you've ever tried in your life.

Star Citizen players need not comment.

I'm not gonna make this a long one like I usually get carried away, its very simple.

This game is worth playing for one simple reason beyond all else, the devs listen VERY closely to the community, just look at the games activity since launch and count how many patches there have been, I can assure you that its not because the game is broken, its because every single day (almost) there are quality of life updates happening so fast than you can barely mention something you would like to see added to the game before it the next patch introduces it. Its amazing.

There are cons obv. I started on day two of the games release and I haven't been sweating it out but rather than sit and grind out 50's or getting 32carp immediately etc (youll understand) I progressed quite fast through each area of the game, I've unlocked almost everything, every skill and creature/ area that the game has to offer for the purposes of seeing it all.
From day one and to date, the game is pretty much grinding for the sake of grinding and the combat is simple and needs some spice.

The devs have been very clear about future content they intend and include and at pretty much 100 hours game play, I am enjoying myself but it almost hinges entirely on the notion that the content will get better, eventually.
Its a really REALLY good thing that the devs have been updating consistently and listening closely to what the community wants, not too many games would keep all there players with a promise.

I didn't wanna review even this early into the games development because there's so much to come and it feels very ongoing but I know by now that I am enjoying myself and don't feel the need to force myself to play, you can also afk for 24 hours max at a time so if you wanna break you'll still get a small amount of xp (relatively speaking)

I loved this game and 100% it when I was younger. I used to play it alone in the middle of the night in the dark and it ♥♥♥♥ me up for real. I wanted to grab it specifically to collect dead birds and pieces of metal like one of the drugged up homeless people that this mad cop keeps blasting away without warning, alas, the game works TERRIBLY.

First off, if you were planning to play on control either, expect to map all of the buttons yourself in game with zero reference using possibly the most awkward interface I've ever encountered (this is what I did, it kind of works) or, do what a normal person would do and intsall Xwininput or whatever its called, which will allow you to map your controller to the game using a modern interface that makes sense. TLDR controller bad.

second, while playing the game you will experience what feels like input lag but essentially the game is barely clinging to life and it takes a second for it to figure anything out. it started off sort of promising and I really wasn't expecting much, I don't care how it looks honestly and I would have played with a second of input delay (even though it hurt to fight anyone and most of the time I couldn't tell if my melee attacks were even connecting/doing damage just had to guess with blocking too)

but, unfortunately, finally, on a modern machine with the biggest i7 there was and an RTX30'series graphics card etc etc. this game would only work "sort of well" for X amount of time (not super long it varies I played like a solid 30minutes once I got everything set up and was near the end of the first mission when it all went haywire) the game absolutely will give up the ghost and stop working, the number of frames I was allowed slowly decreased until I was playing the game in single movements once every so often so that I was nothing more than an apparition, floating down the hallways. It doesn't work, its a slow burning dumpster fire of a port (I'm assuming) and its only a matter of time before you watch your childhood favourite crack head killer warp before your very own eyes more than he could inside the story of the game.

seeing as this game doesn't support steam achievements anyway, and I got it on sale for less than 2 units of my local currency, I don't really feel like I'm missing much anyway. sad story, great game, terrible ******* version.

For a fiver this game is incredible, its just released from early access where it has been a work in progress for some time. The game is both "brand new" in the sense it just got its full release and receives frequent support and updates buuut has been a passion project by the devs for a little while now.

For the price point the game is almost unbeatable for ARPG players. The most succinct description I've heard so far is "borderline bullet hell, vampire survivors type game meets ARPG"
The game plays like a bunch of nephelim rifts over and over again and the more you level the more of the game and its core functions you unlock. Diablo end game meets PoE, with a PoE style skill tree and a map table that lets you craft various keys to enter unique and exceptionally rewarding dungeons.

To begin with the game may seem like a fan service, mob dense, dopamine farmer (because it is) but it slowly introduces some more challenging tasks, different mobs, wipe mechanics etc making the combat increasingly interesting as you progress.
The more you play the more you learn, at the time of writing this review I'm like level 250 in the current season and I'm already thinking about what I've learnt and how to farm certain materials, learning things like which ruptures to target farm trinkets from and how to level stuff up to create the exact item I'm looking for. The game has a surprising amount of depth and will only continue to get better so get in on the ground floor.

Material farming and item crafting galore, various weapons with unique abilities that make your build just a little more special, various unique dungeons with a spin- brimming with rewards and challenges- a competitive online season to race against your friends in, every 4-5 weeks right now as standard...

Its hard to believe at this point we're still talking about a £/$5 game (I got it for 3 something when I grabbed it) I promise if you are a fan of ARPG's you would literally be doing yourself a disservice by not adding this game to your collection, I DEFY YOU to find a better, more addictive and easy to get into RPG game at this price point, please do let me know if you think you could top it because its honestly such a good game, way better than it appears in your first few hours.

Don't play this game.

I just wanted to talk to Yuri...

I didn't mean for any of this to happen.

I've known about this game for a long time but never played it, I've heard it rated rather well again and again by a certain type of person and had a pretty good idea what I was getting into. I knew it would get weird too but I didn't expect to go from curious, to invested, to straight up tilted only to then notice I've put 10 hours into the game......oops.

On the mature subject matters, I actually don't rate the writing all that much. I started to like it but inevitably was left feeling like that depression and suicide stuff was just a trauma dump of depression cliches that are highly relatable but not actually portrayed very maturely. When tackling a subject matter like this its important to put a lot of thought into it.
that being said, this is how it is for a lot of young people who struggle from day to day with depression and I can relate, I've been there. I personally think it could have been handled a little better but overall, once the game starts taking a turn it REALLY starts taking a turn and now I'm nothing short of transfixed.

the weirder it gets the more intrigued I get.
ALL JOKING ASIDE, the game had me invested before I even realised and I can't seem to stop.
I'll give this game a 10/10 if I win over Yuri.

I love giant throbbing pine cones as much as the next person so I had to get in on the ground floor when the game was still real moist you know what I mean, still warm to the touch and oh boy was I delighted. And by delighted I mean I was horrified and genuinely surprised in a few places but absolutely commend the devs for creating something that stays very true to its style so that the vulgarity remains apt, deliberately grotesque and well done at that, as apposed to edgey and cringe.

There is an incredible attention to detail in this game and it plays like a classic rpg in my mind, it takes me back to the time when character choices you make at the beginning are going to have an effect on your run in the long hall. A whole list of well known streamers can start playing the game on stream and sink many hours on camera into the game during the rush and still, as I myself have watched many of them do, miss huge, character building key mechanics such as the ENTIRE SKILL UPGRADE SYSTEM and not even feel like something is missing from the game. because its immersive, because its terrifying (something that is hard to achieve in the horror spectrum of games, film and books regardless of your style, never mind this particular style of turn based, top down-esque kinda game) its artistic style is distinct and finely crafted. Its replayability is HUGE (please ignore my playtime I neglected my own person copy of this game, after getting like four hours in I loved it so much I took the game to a friend (proverbially ofc) and have spent so much time playing and learning the game anywhere other than my own account) and the pacing is very commendable, also consider that depending on your own personal tolerance and or skill levels with video games you may take a very long time to get anywhere or get anything done without dying a bunch of times but anything that is worth getting is worth struggling for.

I intend to come back here when I have a good amount of time and try and get as much completed on my own account at some point, especially as I'm quite keen to play the second game which I've only seen a little of and know a lot less about.

If you love horror, you like a challenge or even if you just want to see something that genuinely pushes some of the common and safer boundaries you find in video games today, in a way that only an indie kind of game could possibly do, then come here to see it done right, nay, beautifully.

also its cheap.

Onimusha: Warlords is easily in my top 5 games that I've played and enjoyed.
I played this game on the PS2 when I was a kid and quickly became obsessed with the entire line of games, that being said I honestly think the first game was the shining gem of them all (love the cameo in the later games though). This game was so difficult when I was younger and I battled through it, learning all its secrets and playing it over and over again.
Few games gave me the kinda feeling of success and completion this game did, unlocking the panda suit for the first time ever as a prepubescent kid was such a huge moment in gaming for myself and my brother and I both enjoyed this game relentlessly.
I own the remake on console and steam and have put a good amount of time into the console version. Every time I play this game I do a no heal, no upgrade run and I'm getting closer and closer to a no heal no upgrade 2 hour completion. I take this game very seriously, I suggest it to literally anyone and everyone I think will be even vaguely interested as this game is literally one of the OG inspirations for the entire genre of games we now know and love "Souls Like".
At a first glance the game can seem dated (it is old and a particular and very fixed style) and also very limited. The more time you spend with the game (or you can just look it up nowadays) the more you realise there is a depth to the combat and your surroundings that only the most avid and consistent of players will ever, truly, master.
I love this game so much that sitting within arms reach of me is a sealed copy of the Japanese only edition that was supposed to be much harder and made the game considerably more difficult and interesting in a few ways (original xbox copy)
The style needs to be mentioned here too as its aesthetic beautifully blends a classic horror setting with some truly horrendous yet stunning backdrops and images with an action based combat focused game. The time period and setting is currently and always has been popular so if you recently found yourself enjoying Ghost of Tsushima and or are awaiting for the arrivals of Shadows, perhaps dip your toes into an absolute classic, brought to modern machines and take your time soaking in your surroudings.

I'll leave you with a little tid bit, if you're gonna try this game and you've never played it before, good luck with Kaene, if you wanna get through this game and especially this section, without pulling out your hair, you NEED to take your time searching the surrounding areas and more importantly, take your time learning the combat because there is way more to it than meets the eye. Kaede's section of the game, until very recently, has always been my most hated section of the game - especially nowadays as I'm trying to get a sub 2hr challenge run- but as I have improved and become more patient I have learned how to trivialise a lot of combat as Kaede as well as Samaosuke, it just takes, a little skill, a lot of timing and a bunch of patience.

Good luck and give it your best shot, this game is worth your time even as I write this in 2024 and probably inspired one of your favourite games, if you're reading this.

The game is good, its unapologetically simple but that leans in its favour. Its a refreshing, classless RPG, retro style and feels like an homage to the Java/Browser type games a lot of us raced home from school to play on the family computer.

I found the game in my library with no recollections of actually downloading it, I booted it up henceforth, with no prejudice or expectations and I was really pleased to find myself playing online with others, enjoying a more unique RPG adventure with a friend and I keep coming back.

For those of you who have made it this far in the review, I'm writing this because I saw the developer (Code and Code) online, addressing the games sudden rise in popularity and I was happy to hear (from one of their dev blogs on the youtubes) that they hadn't anticipated that anyone would play this passion project and they have since come back to the game with fervour and aim to provide future content.

With such a promising start, I believe this game has a very interesting near future and its honestly one of the friendliest online games I've been part of in a very long time. I hope to see the game grow and the dev doing more in the future!

THIS GAME USED TO GET A THUMBS UP. I EDITED IT TO A THUMBS DOWN.

The game has improved over the years, newer content and plenty more loot means there is still plenty to do and loot drops feel as though they have also been improved. The player can spend more time in game now without needing to stop or feel the need to purchase gems/consumables. Overall the game is more f2p now than it was a couple years ago however, disappointingly, the micro-transactions that do exist are even more outlandish than they were before.
This is not a game where you have to spend money to get what you want but be prepared for the endless loot grinding, as that is more or less the whole point of the game.

Just as, if not more fun than I remember it being- and the community is amazing (most of the time)

REVIEW EDIT: Since the changing of ownership I personally, feel like the game hasn't just taken a dip, but rather it has attempted to jump straight off a cliff. I can't continue to encourage players to try the game the way it is today. I have spent many (almost 3000 hours) playing the game and it simply isn't worth the time or investment anymore. The main focus of the game is to monetise every aspect of the game. As if the NFT's wasn't enough, the developers now opt to scrap existing content and make the game more about spending money in the shop to progress- even going as far as to reduce the quality of previously existing bundles that were accessible and useful for free to play players.

A sad but common story.
