I may be writing this review only because steam wants me to do it for the steam awards, so let me be brief:

It's dang good.

A wonderful hidden gem, born anew in both virtual reality and normal desktop play.

Whether you have played the original or have yet to experience it (oh how I envy you!), this game breaks the mold of "here's some charts, now play them" with a heartbreaking yet beautiful story. Deemo is sure to please any rhythm game fan.

This game has way too many bugs.

Luckily, I love seeing the bug count diminish before my minigun.

Step 1: Peel skin off of the buddy that you hauled out of the mines
Step 2: Replace legs with superior bionics
Step 3: Make him the dedicated courier of your drug empire
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit

Surprisingly fun metroidvania, if a bit short. Very unique combat and feel - Touhou fans will feel right at home!

A great RTS. Not easy, offers ton of singleplayer content and great multiplayer. A must buy for WW2 and RTS fans.

Early Access Review
The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is a Bullet-hell-shoot-em-up-with-roguelite-elements.

Is this a game for me?
This game may be for you if you:
  • Enjoy Shmups
  • Enjoy a great Soundtrack
  • Like a game where you decide how difficult it gets
Summary
If you've played Steredenn, this is pretty similar. You face boss after boss, getting upgrades after every fight depending on your performance. You get to choose which difficulty-level of boss you fight, which increases or decreases the difficulty of the following fights - but also the rewards.
My opinion

Positives
I very much like the uniqueness of the game. You don't fight or kill monsters, you instead LOVE them. While it might sound overly cliché at first (learn to love your inner demons yadda yadda), the game approaches this rather difficult topic extremely maturely.

The gameplay is very satisfying and feels great. I never had to resort to "learning boss patterns" before i could defeat them: Attacks are well telegraphed and fair. Otherwise, it's a good Shmup, not much to say here.

I love Roguelikes, and this game's upgrading system is very much up my alley. You receive upgrades after every fight, some are locked behind challenges (e.g. don't use a bomb, full combo the monster etc.), others are guaranteed. These upgrades feel very unique and well thought out.

The game also features progression in between runs. During your loving-spree you collect currency which you can spend on unlocking a "Pokedex entry" for a monster you've fought before, showing you it's elemental weaknesses and unlocking it for quickplay. The same goes for items: by unlocking their entry you get a bit of story/lore, and in future runs the unlocked item will show up as a reward (normally, these rewards are just question marks. Unlocking items can help you receive the item you really want).

Negatives
There's only one thing i kind of dislike: Many monsters share the same soundtrack. Don't get me wrong though, the OST is phenomenal, and it doesn't get repetetive - i just wished for more.

Conclusion
The Void Rains Upon Her Heart is already absolutely worth its price tag. If you enjoy Shmups (and even if you don't!) I highly suggest checking out this game.

The ranked netcode can be a bit (read: immensly) iffy. HOWEVER, the lobby system and the offline as well as the game itself are actually a lot of fun. If you are a fan of Final Fantasy, I recommend at least checking out the free version.
