I can not recommend this game. Even after the patch it just doesn't feel or play right. It's hard to pin point, but after fighting most of the bosses, almost none of them have 'felt' rewarding. Another big 'sin' for me is that some enemies will have windup animations and then instantly flip directions to land a hit, which defeats the deliberate bait and dodge feel of a souls game and looks broken every time the knight creatures do it. It also feels like there is a lot of cut or missing content, with some of the bosses being completely optional and pointless like the gaian. I've played all the dark souls games, bloodbourne, and even Salt and Sanctuary which I like and feel like got the 'feel' of a souls game right, and this one just misses most of the marks. On the plus side..it's pretty.

We just put out a massive free expansion. It adds 10 new areas, 6 new bosses, 20 new weapons, 100 new talents and more. If you enjoy the expansion please consider updating your review : )

Over the past 3 years we've read through reviews like yours and collected fan feedback and we feel we've remedied all of your issues in this free Afterlife expansion.

Combat has been significantly fine-tuned, hitboxes have been adjusted, UI has been streamlined, there are more weapons, bosses, talents and gear to give you a deeper rpg experience. We hope you give the game another chance.

Even the axis flipping attacks have a pattern to them. Git gud.

The Gaian is not a pointless boss at all. After defeating the Gaian (and Ione), Ione will join the camp and you can learn skills from her.
