TL;DR
Play for story, power fantasy and customization, not gameplay.

The good: Story!
You should play this for the story, power fantasy and customizations. If you do then you will have a jolly good time because of the roleplaying you can do. Replayability is very high, especially on Sith Warrior, Sith Inquisitor and Imperial Agent. Yes, the Republic sadly get's the short end of the stick.
These positive points can't get stressed enough though because they are really strong points.

The bad: Everything else?
The gameplay ranges from OK to bad. Play with friends to kill things faster or you'll take ages to get anywhere because some areas are riddled with trash mobs. The flashpoints are, with the rare exception, not worth the time. Some areas suffer from dogsh!t performance no matter how good your pc is.

I've played this on and off since launch for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours. I've leveled all characters more than once so trust me when I say: Whatever you do, do not start with a Trooper or Jedi Consular because they are the most boring experiences you can have. At least in my opinion, you may find them fantastic.

Start with any of the three aforementioned Imperial classes and work your way forward from there.
Focus on story and you'll have an excellent time!

I takes a loooong time to get to the true end game of the Guiding Lands but the road there is tough and will make you understand the ins and outs of the game and how to prepare for a fight properly, because some fights you cannot win if you don't.
