game is really good BUT

hella buggy. and not the fun bugs where its playable and enjoyable. you crash constantly, you dc from servers frequently. you lose so much gameplay time progress because of these 2 factors with nothing to make up for it.

the game is genuinely fun besides the plague of bugs. i wish there were more starting weapon variations and more clothing to begin with or the fact of your colour choice at the beginning to actually matter.

Will change review to positive when the game is in a more stable position but current price, its not worth for the bugs.

Edit 1:
Fatshark owes me alot of XP... literally got to extraction and it disconnected me from the servers......

Edit 2:
Changed review as crashes have been fixed in abundance with some still left, but its in a much more playable state.
After playing more though, I really start to kinda think about the fundamental parts of the game. The gameplay is really good however, it feels really weightless to progression. I am a fairly veteran vermintide player so I can understand from that how progression seemed pointless. But this is really like left for dead imo in the sense that - it doesn't actually matter. The game doesnt feel very rewarding. Despite this, the gameplay and etc is top tier. I hope more support to this theme gets put out because adding reasons to progress properly would be amazing BUT adding reasons to bring your friends to the game and have fun like we used to with left for dead would be the better option imo.
Twitch integration to control the fields of play, potentially a workshop for character skins and enemy reskins, community leaderboards for runs to maybe make it competitive to people, adding proper emotes maybe, fully custom gamemodes and yeah, just that content that brings groups of friends together to play something.
Atm, it feels blank that way. it doesnt feel like vermintide 2 either where you could bring friends and have fun with the weird and wonderful ♥♥♥♥. its a good game with just very little reasoning. I feel hypocritical im so judgemental but yet voted this for multiple steam awards... XD

Edit 3: The class overhaul update
Honestly, this update is what games should try look to do. everything feels 1000% better and ive been really enjoying it now. builds are actually a thing and weapons are more available and are much more optional build choice than it was when it released. at full price, id still recommend this honestly. its insane fun with friends and even alone, really fun to level up and theory craft your build to purge heratics with.
Id recommend Gigachad Ogryns ofc, theyre honestly really fun and theres definitely going to be some nerfs to some classes, but id see Ogryns as fairly balanced compared and in a great place to have fun with.

Review from October 2022:
yee its good.

i dislike how alike to boneworks it is, initially, it seems like a boneworks dlc that costs £30 BUT - it does get better and different as you progress. so thats good.
imo, its not really worth the £30. This isnt the best vr game ever made, like people are claiming. its better than boneworks, in most aspects besides an odd physics change in climbing and how climbing seems harder and less functional than boneworks was - somehow. hitboxes are iffy atm,
if you like boneworks, youll like this. if you didnt like boneworks - you wont like this, likely. its okay to have a preference

Review from October 2023:
This game is actually sad. Honestly, it should not have the positive reviews it has. The devs have FULLY abandoned this game and the support that was promised? Never came. It was ditched and it's a sad reflection of what it could be, and as people have discussed and reviewed - you aren't paying for the game, you are paying for the mods and even still - its hard to not want to just play something else that has just as much interesting mods - or more even.
- blade and sorcery,
- boneworks,
- half life alyx
- zero caliber...
This review launched as a positive, with hope that the game would be the Gmod of VR like it was aimed to be like. But without ANY support from the devs, it feels like yet another sad reminder of the downfall of good companies. It's just so wrong how they promised so much and ditched us when they got their money cause honestly - thats the only excuse they have for a year of no support.
Minus the content, that has never been improved upon - this game has nothing of value besides the community keeping it vaguely alive as they full well know. The developers should honestly feel ashamed to have even launched this because it feels like they never intended it to go any further as Bonelabs and has likely been abandoned for their future projects, which id understand - - - if they provided the support they promised.

Good game but buggy ofc, especially EA tier. Replayable kind of ig, but imo it could do with alot more expansion to the end game and how population works. maybe have a progression mode so that you could colonise and move people between settlements. any type of diplomacy or improvement to the AI would be really cool too and would just add to the long game and replayability.
its doubtful most of that stuff would happen and just more buildings would be the focus but it just doesnt have that end game experience atm or a huge amount of replayability. it does get dull after a while.

Parts I Love:

- how farming works, you can choose what crop to grow in a really interesting and realistic form, with soil requirements, weeding, etc etc and rotate your harvest to better your farms.
- the asthetics are on point imo. it looks hella nice and each tier of building has variations to it, like the houses that make them seem different and realistic.
- Trading system is solid imo, just like most games but how you have to move the inventory between each is good but i think theres a bug current that prevents you from moving goods from your trading outpost back to your global inventory.
- rat catchers and how the small things matter hugely. stuff like clothing, shoes, baskets, shops all matter and improve the town youre building. rat catchers prevent food and harvests from being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by the rat gangs.
- automatic housing upgrading, like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this is QOL tier ♥♥♥♥ that matters. If your houses match the criteria to upgrade, they automatically upgrade and generally theres very little buildings you have to upgrade.

Parts I Dislike:
- How barracks dont auto-deploy soldiers to deal with raiders, making them kinda pointless for any unwalled section of your town. using upgraded towers clustered together seems to work alot better when you also have hunters around those areas too who help fight raiders passively in their areas.
- The maps and terrain being kinda iffy imo. like there seems to be very little variation in the landscapes and it could do with alot of improvements.
- the sand/clay/ore overlays and how they function generally can be bothersome when you dont find or find it hard to find those spots and when you do, it says X ore is available when it isnt.
- excessive wood consumption imo, like firewood needed yearlong is iffy in the first place and 2nd is that trees regrowing is small leading to the next point.
- workers camps are absolutely useless imo. the trees dont regrow fast enough to keep up with the chopping down and there is never enough stone to make them worthwhile in any longer period of time, maybe consider to make them have a larger radius or actively seek out even at distance resources to bring back into the camp.
- how water works. lakes are extremely pointless. regardless you seem to need wells and there is nothing you can build on lakes besides fishing spots along the shores that are buggy cause its like saying no fish when it has fish and then giving fish anyways and sometimes not giving fish. water should be improved imo in the sense that, maybe making man made rivers to help farms produce more from their harvest would be really cool and to have something like trading harbours so you can move goods/villagers across the water to another port for faster transport and as an extra form of income similar to the markets.
- imo, a baseline religious building would be good to add to the world. ofc not everybody is religious, adding religious things might be very presumption type but having something early on that you could maybe choose the focus of (e.g. bringing donations to the state in money, increasing happiness or healing villagers) since this would be pretty in line with alot of history.
- stone quarries. why isnt there quarries lmao or lumberjacks generally. workers camps dont work, as ive stated but having neither lumberjacks or quaries for a city builder that drains and demands resources, you kinda require those to progress and both were historically important af.
- raiding and how there is basically no actual threat since they run away after not really doing anything anyways. i played on standard and even upped it and played for a while in the same world and still, raiders even after being large in number were not like a hugeeeeeee threat that would demand me having 2-3 barracks across the town like i did. there was mention of other stuff somewhere, but i havent had any other threats tbf. ngl - bears were more of a threat to my town than raiders cause they just killed all my villagers and hit a few buildings and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off again

Thanks for good game tho. prob 7.5/10 critically

An INSANE amount of potential into a project like this.

Buying this game, is not a finished or even fully playable piece. Its buggy as hell, needs tons of work - but buying this title, you support the developer(s).

IMO, if the dev reads this - I'd look for outside investment. You're using UE, maybe look into contacting Epic as they have developer grants available for promising titles that would help fund tf outta this and hire the experience it needs to bring it to a better level. Getting that support, in some form, is vital to making a quality project like this work well. Otherwise it may just sit in concept limbo if the developers run out of motivation.

This is currently NOT a replacement to VRC. However, Helios could be the future platform to replace it in 1-2 years time and it could easily have the potential to blow up to be huge.

Buy this to help the developers, do not buy this to replace VRC cause it simply cannot (currently).

This is too similar to Deadpoly imo, its not even like vaguely similar - it is reused assets.

If the teams are not the same people, somebody is either ripping assets or somehow coincidentally they use the exact same paid/free assets.
The inventory system, food, water, hunger system all the same, the gui is the same with minimal changes. many animations and even buildings are the same. the player model is almost identical too, and theres even clothing that is basically the same. different mechanics so far seem to solely be how guns work and the map itself - that seems to be it.

Besides this fact of sketchy similarity to Deadpoly - SurrounDead is a decently good game too. It defo is an EA title and needs the support to make it something proper like multiplayer, coop, better crafting. It has a huge issue with backpacks in backpacks inside backpacks to store backpacks tho. Im 1.5hrs in and found you can infinitely store items - kinda making the game dull imo.
The AI needs work for sure, hearing you through anything and legit walking up stairways in tall buildings to reach you.

Is this game worth it atm? No. Don't buy - I say this purely because the fact that it is too similar to Deadpoly and this is a major factor that the devs need to explain on WHY this is and what game, or either, is gonna actually be supported/not if they are the same dev team. Is the game actually good? yeah, its good for an EA and fairly priced too. But still being, if this turns out to be a developer team that has stolen assets or essentially pump and dump games -

I cannot recommend this game until that part is answered.

VRC Devs punishing the vast majority for the quiet minority is dumb as ♥♥♥♥.

If they monetise or steal modder's content (AS THEY HAVE IN THE PAST), they could honestly just get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at that point. Their response to this has been horrid, hiding feedback and even punishing people giving feedback. To throw their bs reasons out to YouTubers before the announcement, weeks before. To having a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ past of DIRECT benefits from modders e.g. their security system (that was built by modders) - is like a dog biting the hand that feeds it.

Free game, subscription based. consumers are entitled to give feedback, they can listen or do what they are rn and pretend everything is okay and the community loves this. But steam is likely gonna hide all these negative reviews as they have done for other games in the past - Atlas, Fallout 76, Cyberpunk.

♥♥♥♥ VRC.
