Funny how a bunch of con artist game designers completely rip off another title and have zero idea how to balance their copied product. Who would have thought? The art team deserves a raise. The balance team should be fired.

I just two games in a row outplayed a guy with purple weapons. Both times I loot the guy and extract and the game deletes the purple items. Who in gods name designed this system? So you are telling me on top of having to fight higher geared players every 10 levels and having to grind out each of my own armor pieces that even if I use skill to outplay someone more geared I do not even get their higher tier loot because I am not high enough level?

Dude you literally killed your own game with this design like how did you ever decide "well lets make an extraction looter shooter" and came to this conclusion? I am actually baffled.

As many other posters have said I was really getting into the game and having a good time. Even dealing with the horrible loot leveling system in terms of armor upgrades because I could still outplay around being in greens vs blues ... but now knowing you don't even get rewarded for your skill makes this entire grind pointless. Imagine killing someone with a Legendary gun and you aren't allowed to have it. Are you guys smoking crack?

Oh and they plan to have wipes as well ... what a waste of development money and effort. You completely missed the point on what makes looter shooter games give adrenaline dumps to keep players engaged. THE RISK IS THE REWARD!

I will be honest when I first saw this I was very skeptical. I have been playing Zombie/Survival/BR games since WarZ alpha and have an entire steam library of dead games of this style. This game has a very strong base to build off of if you keep refining the gameplay mechanics.

What I really enjoyed as a fresh player:

- The AI climbing walls and jumping off buildings was really cool and unexpected.

- The AirDrop event scripting was also very well done and better than most AAA games already to be honest.

- The actual initial splash screen explaining the alpha and how to join the testing was very well designed even if simple and gave a professional clean feel to the first launch of the game.

- ONE SHOT HEADSHOTS with no helmet. THANK YOU! :D

Overall I am going to give the singleplayer some more playtime and plan to try for the closed multiplayer testing. If your network coding is anything like your client only coding I expect good things and with some polish/optimization this could really become a known BR in the gaming industry. Congratulations!

At first I thought it was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage rng game. It still is but it's way more fun once you start achievement hunting. Cool concept and much different gameplay than the screenshots let on. I suggest watching a gameplay video.

Game is pog af. Big Mario 64/Waverace vibes. Please make more levels! This could easily become a paid-for fleshed out title with a few asset changes. Think about it Devs. ;)

This is one of the best horror games I have ever played out of 20 years of gaming. It is a technical masterpiece.

When the game first started I was concerned I would not like it based on the teenie bopper soundtrack/intro. I immediately thought I had bought into some psuedo dating sim style high school game and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was I wrong. Here is an extensive breakdown of why you should buy this game if you have any interest at all in the horror genre:

Graphics: This game hands down has some of the best graphics and cinematography I have ever seen in my life. So many times I would just be sitting there amazed that I was watching a render and not an actual movie and often you will forget that it is even a video game. The cut scenes blend directly with the in game render and so it is seamless. If this were played on a 4K screen you would think there were tiny real people walking on your monitor. It is THAT high resolution with all graphics on max. The character facial renders are off the charts and I would not be surprised at all for movie studios to start making "playable movies" based on this exact design in the future.

Sound: The sound design is also 1:1 with the visual fidelity. Everything sounds AAA quality and the voice acting is fantastic. Again they really tried to make this game a movie and they nailed it with the atmosphere. The soundtrack teenie bopper music was very off putting at first but they do blend it properly with the emotional scenes and it carries like a movie would if you just let your guard down and enjoy the scene. With that said the "dark synth horror" atmospheric music in this game is bad ass and I swear there's some Nightmare on Elm Street influence in the main piano riff somewhere. :D

Lore: The story is so well fleshed out and complete. Every characters path adds to the overall understanding of what is happening and there are TONS of foreshadowing/ironic queues you see along the way that add to the explanation of what is really going on. The Quarry plays like a detective game in many ways and to say the replayability is high is an understatement because the multi path system requires you to skip certain content thus making the next playthrough fresh when you pick those other routes/choices to see what happens. This is very much a choose your own adventure style story. The basic protagonists plot is nothing new and actually has an echoing of previous games such as Resident Evil or Silent Hill in a good way. The story though is extremely fleshed out both with actual visual story telling and hint style collectibles all over the map. If you enjoy RE style lore collectibles you will love this game. There is also a very cool Tarot card system which I will not explain further as id rather ya'll experience it yourself.

Characters: Each character at first felt like typical high school jerkoffs until I selected a bit of positive dialogue choices and they quickly turned into fleshed out and interesting characters. You can somewhat bend the personality of each character based on your choices to "mold" who they are and thus often their outcome. You essentially have control of all of the counselors but it seems you can favor any one and build around them as sort of a main character. I was actually amazed at how real each character becomes as the story went along. Many times I genuinely laughed or felt like part of the conversation/group when watching the scene. I am pretty cynical when it comes to game design but once you get past the first meetup of the counselors the dialogue really captures american ♥♥♥♥ talking that we do. Often AAA games feel like the conversations were written by 50 year old business men in suits and just comes off as tacky. These characters feel real and the developers did such an excellent job of building them out as believable humans as you go along so that you care and invest in what happens to them. A big part of the game is struggling to not disrupt your teams flow and to keep everyone supporting each other to stay alive. It just works and feels so natural as a horror scenario. (I did kill the one ♥♥♥♥♥ on the first playthrough. Sorry, not sorry. :P)

Guns: They actually did firearms proper justice in a horror game! I am a gun guy and let me tell you most gaming companies have no idea whatsoever how guns work or the realities of their usage especially in horror titles. The problem with firearms in horror games is that they are either far too strong and turn the game into a rambo shootemup or they are so ridiculously underpowered that they feel like fake pop guns. Both of these extremes break immersion and tension that is needed to make a horror game scary. The Quarry balances this so well. The gun design and the way characters act with them is very fairly represented. You get guns but they are used more like tools and not weapons. They are effective but limited and eventually they become phased out as the lore progresses and normal guns no longer "solve the problem". This may not be a big deal for some gamers but I really appreciate the respect given to firearms portrayal and safety.

Additional Content: So this game must have been written from the ground up as a movie first before building in Unreal because there are additional options aside from the main game. One of them being a director mode where you can basically choose if all counselors live or die and you watch the entire game automated as one giant movie. I think this is such a good idea in terms of allowing people to see the "full story" without struggling to replay the game multiple times and also from a design perspective by making the game as a movie script allows the devs to really dig into that lore and flesh it out because they have the whole story right there to dissect and manipulate. There are also COOP modes that I have yet to try and am curious how it plays out in relation to the story telling.

So that is my extensive review so far after 1 full playthrough. This game is a technical masterpiece and it is required you own this if you enjoy any sort of horror game/movie style. These developers are masters of the craft and I hope they continue to make other games of this nature moving forward. Finally a unique and enjoyable experience after YEARS of cut and paste garbage from AAA studios. Thank you Quarry Devs!
