TL;DR - studio slowly ruins designers' original and fun idea. Do not buy, even on sale, you will only find disappointment.

Don't let my play-time on steam fool you, I've been aboard since the early alpha, then I would have recommended it, but it has unfortunately been developed into honestly just a very bad video-game. AVOID if you're just just looking to have some fun with battleships. Every time I launch this since it has come out on steam I am disappointed and annoyed into ALT+F4ing within twenty minutes.

Graphics: Even on max they are only decent, but the FPS dies pretty quickly when there's a lot on screen, even in real-time mode, so if you want to do large battles you'll be playing on lower graphics.

UI: A joke, not only is your screen covered in masses of text and numbers at all time, unless you hide it, the quality-of-life is terrible. Nothing is intuitive and nothing feels tested, and to top it off it doesn't fit the theme of the game at all, it looks very basic and modern.

Physics: Fantastic. Slow, agonising and then spectacular when something comes off, be it for or against you. Looks great, sounds great, feels great - this is where the game began and it has stayed true ever since.

Controls: Horrible.. The game invites you to take part in everything, and then constantly resists, ignores and undermines you. The result is neither hands-off enough to make you feel like an Admiral, nor hands-on enough to make you feel like a captain, more like a shepherd to a belligerent flock all high on cocaine.

AI: Bad. Enjoy watching the enemy spin around and blob and run around all over the place with no rhyme nor reason. Your own ships are hilariously inept, always attempting the most complicated, confusing interpretations of your input to crash into each other and be infuriatingly ineffective.

Ship design: A double-edged sword. Great if you're truly into this very complex subject, but overwhelming and honestly boring if you're not. There is no middle ground, though; you either do everything yourself or rely on the ridiculous Auto-Design feature which spits out ahistorical, ugly creations every time - which is the only kind you'll ever see the AI using.

Campaign mode: Straight out of the early 2000's. Feels as if it is made by obligation for realising a highly priced game, there's no vision or passion, they're groping around in the dark and they've done a really bad job. Nothing looks good, nothing is fun, the AI is bad here too. Just a waste of time, if they wanted to make a naval grand strategy game, they should have started there, all this time and energy could have been put into fixing the core game play of naval battles.

Such a shame. I just hope another studio can buy the rights, keep the core part of the game and rebuild everything else from scratch with some vision, passion and intuition.

Seemed like it would be fun but was way too buggy.
