Review bomb this game for being locked to 30fps in 2025.

man, female protagonist tag is a bait, and I hate that it was like that.
I'd love to have an alternate mode playing through the game as Kaede instead of Shuichi.
it's still a good game, but just tagged wrong, you get a few hours as Kaede and the rest is male protagonist Shuichi.

just a PSA: this game requires good single core CPU performance.
I have an i5 13400F and it's CPU bound all the time.
The P-Core on that card has a base clock of 2.5GHz, so I'd recommend you have a 3.5GHz P-Core to really get the most out of it.
The heaviest CPU setting is Crowd Density, so turning that down helps but unfortunately makes the city feel a bit empty.

Early Access Review
just a scam, don't go into this expecting updates, because there will be none.
if you like how the game is currently then I guess it could be fun but there's a lot of broken promises and general sketch around this game.

I've played a lot of this game and I honestly enjoy it a lot.
But the new DLC they are making (Anomaly) is the worst piece of ♥♥♥♥ I've ever seen.

The content will alienate players who dislike horror. This game was never advertised as a horror game before, and horror elements do not fit thematically into every colony and every run.
The DLC content is stolen from modders. There is an insane modding community around this game that has pretty much anything you could think of, the contents of this new DLC included, to bring that as part of the base game experience is wrong.
All their other DLC content: Ideology, Royalty, and Biotech, are very much giving you options in how you play, adding systems to utilise, but not punishing you for not interacting with them, giving you more control over how you play from run to run, colony to colony.
Anomaly doesn't seem to do this, every colony and every run WILL have flesh horror in it, no matter if you want it or not.

Get the game for sure, it's insanely enjoyable, but ignore the overpriced, alienating DLC called Anomaly.

UPDATE: anomaly content can now be reduced or toggled off within the game, but there is still many problems with this as a whole, including the insane price tag for an indie game.

Short puzzle game in which you learn 5 different languages, each with their own rules and quirks to decipher,
I enjoyed playing the first two chapters of the game immensely, there was enough context clues to decipher the runes, but none of them felt absolutely super obvious.
Missing verification pages was something I ran across once or twice in this part, as I hadn't looked at something I was supposed to (I had the correct meanings of the words just not able to verify them without the page)
The third chapter is the hardest, as it replaces common sentence structure with a different one, which was never explained in game, I felt quite lost as I had an entire dictionary of glyphs but almost no meanings for them, as I just didn't understand their sentence structure.
It would've been made much more fun if there was a tutorial for this new sentence structure, as most people are not familiar with this structure of possessive last, object first.
The fourth chapter was great I have no qualms with it at all, the science focus was great and having to learn their numbering system was cool too.
Again here I missed a verification page by not looking at something important to the game, or seeing it out of order, this meant I had to backtrack using a guide after I'd already finished the puzzles here as my inferences of the meanings were correct or otherwise not required to progress.
The fifth chapter feels odd, like it was rushed, as most of the words are discovered and learnt through simple ciphers, just look at what lines up with your already learnt words, and match them.
While this is a puzzle game and it certainly was a puzzle, it felt like I wasn't so much 'learning' this last language as I was being rewarded it for completing puzzles.
I won't comment on the ending too much but it felt a bit lacklustre for what was a decently big build up to reaching the top.

Overall an enjoyable experience, but remember to press MMB every now and again to make sure you've checked EVERYTHING in the room, because missing one thing can cause you to miss a verification page.
I think chapter 3 requires a slight rework to be more accessible to people as the sentence structure is fundamentally different from every other language (most of them use the same possessive first, object last structure) and that makes it much more difficult than the rest of the game, coupled with the fact that the glyphs are often hard to read and discern in a conversation.

Cheers and have fun!

I'm liking it so far (only 10 hours in) but it feels like I've spent at least an hour grappling with their absolutely USELESS launcher and so many problems with the actual technical settings.
Firstly the game chooses the wrong GPU to use, I have a laptop so have a discrete and integrated GPU and even when it says the adaptor is set to 0 (my discrete card) it's operating on the integrated, for some reason switching the graphics to integrated, restarting, then switching to discrete and restarting, fixes that issue for that play session.
Secondly the game doesn't even save my graphics settings, I spent a good 15 minutes at first tweaking the settings and that was all gone next time I played, what a joke.
Thirdly, the menu controls in the settings menu are scuffed af, they were originally designed with controller in mind but no thought was spared for kb+m on the port, scrolling works only if you click and drag the white bar, otherwise it will scroll but in the opposite direction. Don't try to edit a slider setting by mouse bc it's going to think you're scrolling and jump you around the menu.
Finally Rockstar has this useless launcher that pops up, makes you sign in online to a game you want to play OFFLINE, while also wasting system resources like every client does.

In terms of gameplay though, the game is great, but these issues require me to have a long play session, as my settings don't save, and it takes a good 15-20 minutes to set up every time I wish to play.

So in conclusion: good game, bad menus, bad launcher

I enjoyed myself don't get me wrong, but the game is still unfinished and the devs aren't working on it anymore.
it's their MO, they get a game finished up to release and subsequently drop all support and updates for it, even if it's not fully finished yet.

I still enjoyed though, there are a few references from other games if you can find them (graveyard keeper is one of them)

Don't buy if you're expecting updates, they will never come.

it was a lot of fun when i last played but now seems to have gone the road of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dlc.
buying the game should be a complete experience, not a barebones one backed by dlc.
just another fun game that greedy dlc culture has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up.
buy if you want but remember you're not getting the intended experience without spending over twice as much money of the base game on dlc.
for price: game = 36.99nzd, dlc = 73.50nzd, bundle = 110.49nzd
would you pay 110 dollars for a 2D top down minimalist graphics management game?
or would you pay only 37 dollars and get a stripped down version of said game?
here are some other game prices for your comparisons sake:
god of war, 2022, 89.95nzd
elden ring, 2022, 99.99nzd
red dead redemption 2, 2019, 99.95nzd
witcher 3: complete, 2015, 84.99nzd

I hope this has helped at least one person see how ridiculous this games price tag is, and how toxic dlc culture is to the gaming scene.
