Early Access Review
In a nutshell: A fantastic "Stardew-Like" game with with split screen and multiiplayer coop. Travelers Rest gives you the opportunity to play out the storied Inn-Keeper. But it doesn't just stop there, you have to manage the stores and different beverages on hand. Eventually you get the opportunity to open rooms, expand the Inn, hire staff, and explore during daylight hours.

PROs:
-A fun game that is a cozy break away from the hard core games that suck time and energy.
-Character Customization
-A unique initial game loop
-Nothing felt grindy
-Surface Mechanics are solid
-YOU GET TO CHASE ROWDY PATRON OFF WITH A BROOM!!! - SHOO!!

CONs:
-The gameplay loop becomes repetitive, once you hire staff, and are breaking even, your inn goes to auto pilot.
-The inn becomes stagnant, the guests do not have the DnD/RPG talkative feel
-Other than initial tutorials, no real guide to what to do other than run the Inn
-What is the story?

Verdict:
A great little game to take a break to. If this is their Alpha/Beta of the game, then they have a winning formula, only things need to be added to increase the "Immersion" a player might have. Ultimately the Cons above do not detract from the game. A story can be added later, immersive patrons with dialog can come later, meanwhile I have an Inn to run.

As of today, 05May2024, the following has been amended: Hell Divers 2 will no longer be requiring a PSN account.

The old review is listed below:
"I'm not providing a recommendation for this game due to a decision made by Sony about the game. They are forcing all players to make and link a PSN account in order to play the game period. Because of this stay away until clearer heads prevail."

Clearer heads have indeed prevailed, and as such I can leave the following review with a clear conscience: This game has one of the most active, passionate communities I have ever seen. The head community manager actually accepted criticism and actively sought solutions with the rest of the development team that lead to the resolution described above. This commitment to their game and the people who purchased the game has won back my confidence.

Arrowhead, great work.

Obligatory Greetings and Information

Greetings potential Commanders... You are looking at an incredible game, as open ended as they come. To start, I have put little over 1000 hours into this game. In that time, I have traveled 88,625 Light Years, Visited 3,278 Systems (not planets, systems. Only 0.0000008195% of all systems in game.) Started wars, taken part in wars, traded, hunted pirates, and even have done my share of mining. I have also spent 5 weeks, 5 days, 3 hours, and 25 minutes (a little obsessive, reset my account once.) I have owned the base game for a little over two years now. I have owned Horizons for little over a year.

Personal Opinion
OK, I love this game, absolutly love it. When I first bought the game, I tried to fly from one station to another... After about an hour, looking both at the Wiki, forums, and other things, I docked, "Succesfully." At that point, I hit escape, and Quit to Desktop... After that, I did not touch Elite for about a year. Then I saw a trailer for Horizons. Mentally, I thought, "Wow, it looks interesting, might want to try it out." But, when it comes to buying Expansions... I tend to look at all aspects and what I will get. At the time, they only had released planetary landings. So I bought it, for the full price of another Elite game. (Horizons was not a stand alone DLC at the time.) Since then, I bought a HOTAS, Track IR, and Voice Attack (all completely unecessary for full experience, but so worth it.) I have not put this game down since I got Horizons, almost a year ago. So yes, I absolutly love this game. With that said, Lets start the review.

Review
What this game offers:
This game offers just about every form of gameplay you could want in a Flight Simulator. Thats what this is, a Space Based Simplified Flight Sim. This game also has a bit of Eurotruck simulator in it. It has beautiful graphics, immersive combat, and an interesting background story. It does not have a Single player campaign or a plot for the player to take part in. There are planets to be explored (considering the 400,000,000,000 systems to visit, you are garunteed to see something that no one else has ever seen, or visit a place no one has ever been). Stuff to be shot, Unbalancing galactic power, and balancing it. It offers a terrible RNG based crafting system, that can give you the edge or make mess with you the whole time (Horizons only). Ship launched fighters, and yes... ALIENS *queue the spooky music* (The player base really doesnt know what this will mean for the game, but we all agree this is the right way to go.) Three game modes: Open (Massive free for all, the entire world can go PVP in an instant, but is primarily PVE). Private Groups (Think PVE with friends). Solo (Lonely, you will be lonely, there will be no one, to play this game with. OHOH OOOOOOOOO!)

What this game does to a new player:
Drops you into a frying pan, that then bounces you into the fire, that then drops you into a furnace, that melts you into steel, that then is dropped into a Volcano, and then shot a Star... You get my drift... There is a steep learning curve that will do one of two things... Make you love it, or hate it. The player community will also do one of two things to you... Yep, love it or hate it. If a new player joins the Open world, there is the risk of players attacking you for the sake of PVP, and like in a PVP MMO, you run the risk of getting "ganked" by a player in a better ship. Bear that in mind if you join the Open World to start your journey. That's what the game is, a journey. The game also is brutal, you will understand when you loose your ship and cant afford the insurance even after declaring bankruptcy.

What this game becomes:
Literally anything... No joke, when you start out, ask yourself, what do you want in this game?
Do you want to PVP, PVE, Better ships, Trading, Exploring, smuggling..? The list goes on and on for what you can do in the game. That's why I love it. I can come to it and go *sigh, time to get back to the job...* Or *Get some Pirate Scum!!* Just what ever I feel like at the start of the day.

Because of that, if can seem a little aimless at times, but it is still fun (to me). Be Advised This game is not for everyone, you might get the game and hate it, you might get the game and love it. I personally LOVE this game!

With everygame, there are some drawbacks, it can feel like a grind, an unforgiving one. In my opinion, this game needs to be played with others. The more people you have to play this with, the better it is.

Is Horizons worth it?
YES! Yes! it is. If the base game is a Movie, Horizons is the book its based on. I personally believe that they go hand in hand to get the full experience.

Stay safe out there... Thargoids!

Unlike most expansion passes for the modern game, you know the ones I'm refering to, the witcher expansion pass managed to add completely new storylines and content that did not only expand the story, but also gametime, 8-15 hours of just mainline questing.

Hearts of Stone is the first expansion to be released, setting a very high standard for the rest of the expansions overall. The story has flairs of intruige, romance, references to past witcher games, cameos by characters and a very well done story. That is really all that can be said about Hearts of Stone without ruining it.

Blood and Wine is the second expansion... I am still waiting for it to be released, but I dont mind waiting. If it was anything like the aforementioned expansion, it should be incredible!

If you are new to RPGs this is a good game to cut your teeth on.

First off, I am relatively new to the pick and choose RPG. That said, this was the first one I ever played. Although the graphics look a little dated, it still was a fantastic game that had a good plot. Mind you this game came out before game makers incuded voice acting for the main characters. So your character is silent for most of the dialogue. The game is a pretty quick one and has a decent amount of content and replay value. An enjoyable feature was that you could take parts of all classes and include them in your game for example, you could be a tank that shoots lightning, and then pull out your bow to fight. In the end, I played it through twice, had a good bit of fun both ways.

Really got a good kick out of some of the British humor... (Loads of it)
If you want an example, just look at the Union Jack boxers the character sports when he doesnt wear his armor....

This game is very similar to War Thunder, another game by Gaijin. Unfortunatly, the fan base is not huge, so it takes some time to get into PVP and PVE (team) battles. However, when you do, the game is a blast to play. There is also a developing single player PVE. This game possesses a lot of potential.
