Arrowhead does not know how to balance a game. Do not buy this game in its current state.

It is clear to me from the way the game handles that the developer does little to no playtesting of their game. One example is one time a new ship upgrade got added that claimed it gave you access to additional stratagems, however the description was broken (it would copy the description of your previously selected upgrade), it had no cost, and it couldn't be purchased. It was removed shortly after, and not mentioned in any patch note.

It crashes far more often than any other game I've played (cyberpunk 2077 was more stable at release, at least for me). When I first started playing this game I would crash every time I looked at an eagle cluster bomb. I've had many instances hosting with my friends where I crash and they also crash. Recently there was an issue where you'd crash quite often when extracting from a mission. And the likely culprit of the crashing is the rootkit anticheat arrowhead decided was necessary for and exclusively PvE game.

The anticheat: arrowhead claims that the anticheat is to prevent cheaters from ruining other peoples fun by cheating in samples or money. However when there is a shop in the game to purchase super credits with real money, I find that justification hard to believe (FWIW if you actually play the game you won't need to purchase super credits with real money, it is simply an option for the impatient). The things arrowhead wants to prevent with the anticheat could easily be prevented with a single server side check at the end of a mission, so the inclusion of a rootkit anticheat with a poor reputation is not great.

Early Access Review
The game is very well made. Especially given that it is currently in Early Access, its got an incredible level of polish. I highly recommend this to anybody who likes Roguelite games.

Pretty good game. If you can get the game and legacy bundle for less than $20 its probably worth it if you like looter shooters. Haven't tried much of the VR aspect, so I can't speak to that. Online play is aight, the community isn't *too* toxic IMO. Do be aware that there are several cheating mods that exist, and people play online with them. Can be fun for a bit, but gets old quick and if you call them out on it, they almost always kick you.

TL;DR: Game is decent, if you can get it for under $3 it’s probably worth it.

"The First Tree" is a decent game. I picked it up at 90% off ($1) and I'd say it’s worth the dollar.
The music is nice, the voice acting is ranges from ok to decent. The aesthetics of the game are pretty nice, though it’s clearly lots of assets. The story is a bit nebulous and doesn’t really reach a closure.

The gameplay itself is a bit rough. The fox feels a bit like a Skyrim horse given a double jump on the moon. The fox falls slowly, the double jump is only possible in a window, and the fox is also very slow. To be completely honest, I got enough annoyed by the speed of the fox that I used Cheat Engine to speed it up. Doing so made the game more bearable, but if you’re not careful you can make the dialogue overlap.

As many others have said, it's not worth looking for all the stars. Spoiling as little as possible, the number of stars you pick up is the number of characters you have available to you when you write a message near the end of the game.

Considering it’s the developer’s second game its impressive, but it leaves quite a bit to be desired.

My opinion of this game is that it is a good game, but is crippled by the unity engine. One of the few particularly good things I have to say about this game is that the soundtrack is great. Other than the things is specifically complain about in this review, the game is above-average. Other people have mentioned that the controls are tight, and I have to strongly disagree with them on that point. For me, tight controls means that there is little to no learning curve on using them, which Clustertruck doesn't do a bad job of, but also another requirement for tight controls is consistency in what the controls actually do. For example, the double jump is most likely the most unpredictable thing in the game, which is saying a lot. When using a double jump one would expect a fairly consistent vertical velocity immediately after the second jump, however with the double jump in Clustertruck, there is no guarantee of the outcome after a double jump. Sometimes you go higher, sometimes it basically just sets your vertical velocity to 0. Other odd things relating to the physics of the game are that when in mid-air, you can almost stop your horizontal velocity (i.e. by pressing "S" when moving forward) but when you release that button, your horizontal velocity goes back to what it was before pressing that button (but not exactly the same). I was also having some issues with the game because it was running at too low of a framerate, and leading to even more unpredictability. My computer is not a super high end gaming computer, but it is a very capable computer (Lenovo Thinkpad P71, Intel i7-7820HQ, 16gb ram, Nvidia quadro p3000 [which is an odd card, but games similarly to a 1060 Max q I think]). On higher settings I was seeing very low, and inconsistent framerates, which suprieses me, since I can run AAA titles on low-medium to high (depending on the game, and not necessarily at 60fps). To the two people who actually read this review, I'm sorry about the block of text, string of consciousness format.

TL;DR, Good, fun game. Good replability, soundtrack and idea. Bad engine, physics and controls.

also, for all its worth I bought this on Humble Bundle for less than steam was at the time.

Edit: And for all its worth, again, i didn't just play a bit of this game and then toss it aside, i did beat the whole campaign

A very well made game, somewhat short, but very fun, and satisfying,
beautiful graphics, simple controls.
