I spoke to the admin on your behalf and while he didn't want to un-ban your friend, he did agree that he could have been a bit more transparent on the fact that bans would occur for friendly players.
In the future you should see the most obvious admin message telling people that they will be banned if they don't stop. Sorry about your friend, but at least something changed as a result of his ban.
