Combat

First off, let me state that this is my first time playing a Monster Hunter game, and I'm immediately in love with it! One thing I'd want to address right away that I've observed regarding low score reviews on here is how much they really despise and find clumsy the combat animations of your characters. Fun fact: That's the way it's SUPPOSED to be, after all. Weapons in MH:W aren't composed of paper and plastic, unlike in your regular multi-weapon based game, and you can't just toss a sword as big as you like because it doesn't weigh anything. During a combat, you'll always need to think quickly since there are environmental traps and spots to deploy a grappling hook for speedy movement. This game, however, is not a hack-and-slash where you can simply press a few buttons and expect everything to die; instead, you must plan your attacks (and positioning if you're using a ranged weapon) before you make them or you'll be penalized for hitting in the incorrect manner at the wrong moment.

Graphics

Both the creatures and the maps are stunning and bright! Speaking of the monsters, I thought the adaptive AI was pretty cool, especially in the rare cases where 1 creature has so far attacked another monster I've been battling in an entirely unexpected way. Now, I do have some gripes with the game, which is why I'm not giving it a 10, which, I agree with low score reviews, the game is pretty poorly optimized without any additional performance mods.

Conclusion

I'll admit that not everyone will enjoy this game. The player will need to exercise a little more patience than normal when playing MHW. You'll find a ton of fun here, though, if you can get beyond the grind, get used to the UI, and put up with the strange multiplayer oddity of the story missions. Both newbies and veteran series fans will find it to be wonderfully worthwhile.

Pros:

- Incredible world building, characters, setting. One of the best I've ever played - ever from top to bottom.

-Combat feels good and weighty and fun, you have a variety of options in combat that you can bounce between.

-Core gameplay loop is very satisfying, story and characters all blend together wonderfully.

Cons:

- Melee combat was lacking and doesn't feel good

- Normal difficulty is too easy, games shoves resources in your face, this actually diminishes a lot of interaction you have in the world (further in the game you probably don't need to go to vendors, interact with people for goods, etc.)

- The prevalence of bugs has legitimately ruined thrilling scenes/missions. Characters T posing, entire combat sequences where enemy AI don't detect your presence, V switching from male to female voice lines randomly sometimes.
