GOOD OLD BADDAS CLASSIC!
1/1 buster sword. 5/5 materia. 10/10 chocobos.

I didn't play when it was released because back then I was 4 years old or something. I played it in 2010 on an original playstation (not an emulator or PC version). It wasn't my first JRPG (but one of them), and it wasn't a first Final Fantasy game that I played. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII was the first one and when I beat it I wanted more of this universe. I tried the original one and after this game I’ve become the true fan of the series and JRPGs in general.
Probably I lowered my expectations when I played it the first time because the game was very old. Anyway I was shocked for about first ten hours of gameplay. And after that the game didn’t stop surprising me with new features, mini-games (a lot of mini-games), story twists, characters, chocobo things and other stuff.

About the game:
  • Graphics are not that bad, but character design is silly enough.
  • Combat and abilities are pretty standard for FF games with little features and improvements. ATB probably is my favorite battle system in JRPGs. Materia linking is a really cool idea. And each character has their individual ultimate skills called “Limit Breaks”.
  • The world is pretty big and open with a lot of secrets. There are two characters that you can miss and finish the game without them in your party (I don’t know if it’s really possible, but I guess so).
  • The story is the strongest thing in this game. The main plot and the lore are huge and awesome, but it gets Japanese weird sometimes.
About the port:
  • Battles feels slower than PS1 version.
  • Square’s cloud save service doesn’t work very well.
  • There are new textures for 3D graphics (for a choice), but backgrounds are still the same with low resolution and sometimes it’s really hard to find something.
  • It also has widescreen and controller support.
The port is playable, the game is awesome, it's worth buying at least for the collection.

You definitely can, but you'll need DS4Windows or use this method https://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2561869994

Do you know if I can just play the whole game with my ps4 controller or do I have to map everything because it says partial controller and I don't like using my keyboard or mouse.

Battles feel slower because we're now used to fast-paced gaming. I had this same feeling and sync'ed up two games (one on PC and one on my PS1) and they were indeed the same speed. Great review.
