I like this game. Idk why the reviews for this are mixed (i think it has something to do with the multiplayer). But even without the multiplayer, i love this game. Its a really solid tower defence game to get lost in at a pretty great base price in this economy.

Additionally, the ships u can choose between have a great variety between how they mix up the game play.

If i had to choose a description for it, its quaint. I would love a mobile version of this game, because id be so fitting, but it stands up as a pc game just as well.

When i looked into the recommended section for this game i was interested to find the left 4 dead series and fallout in it. While this may match description in terms of tags metro 2033 seems more reminiscent of the entirety of the bioshock series in both its setting and gameplay if only slightly simplified (namely infinite however based on how combat felt). The game has 2 modes which solved bioshock's problem of having to combine stealth and combat in the first infinite dlc (which failed to nail it due to not switching the original mechanics enough). The game's aesthetics and themes are magnificient and unique. In one level there is a tunnel which has shadows that repeat history over and over again due to 'heaven, hell and purgatory' being 'atomised' in the games own words. This is notably a book adaptation and its great such a vision was realised this way because its a huge contributor in terms of engagement.
If i had to point out negatives one would be, like Infinite, mechanics are somewhat limited despite being engaging and at times the game may get you stuck in a few places but these are small complaints given how solid the game is.

As a note i think that most of the DLC that darkest dungeon has should be bought way after you finish the original darkest dungeon as tempting as it may be to just buy everything because one of the trends i've noticed having played the game since early access is people getting destroyed because they havn't built up a strong enough hamlet to supply troops for the DLC (e.g: encountering a hard dlc roaming boss without having had the expierience to deal with the smaller roaming boss).


For the colour of madness specifically, if you like the battles in the base game and the crimson court, you will adore this. Namely because of the really interesting trinkets put out, the bosess and the soundtrack. Its a great end to the content of the game and the best dlc to reccomend seperate

this game was probably the first notable game under the self aware/meta genre where your experience with the game involved things sort of external to the game (e.g: you aren't treated as a player in a game, rather a person playing a game). Then came Pony Island and now Doki Doki literature club. Quite generally, i think this game is great. It still holds up. The number of endings and ways you can interact with the narrator are just enough so that each player feels like (as a result of their personal choices that) there experience was unique. On top of that, there is so much side content of this game. The game even references some of it.

For example:
The original Stanley parable mod
The Stanley parable iphone game
The demo (which is a completely different game to the actual one but demonstrates the experience quite well)

While i shouldn't judge a game based on side content, it more illustrates how this game was perfected (somewhat more so than other games). This game is great. Its hard to say any more because it would spoil the experience.

With the event of Doki Doki Literature club gaining fame, i feel like this game has become relevant again. If you have played Doki Doki literature club, then the experience of this game will feel familiar. Despite this, this game focuses less on story and more on its gameplay (which not only gradually builds in complexity but also finds other ways to mix up gameplay).

This game is a third platformer, a third puzzle and a third self aware. It hard to say anything else because like other good self aware games, the experience comes with the dynamics of how the game interacts with you.


This game is good for what it is.

i Originally held an opinion against this game existing as it seemed like dlc for something that should already exist in Don't starve, but even so, its offset by the developer's constant support of this game series and updates. Its as if they use the money as a post-hoc kickstarter for new free updates (Note: these updates aren't minor changes, but content heavy updates equivalent to the DLC that they sell) to extend the life of this game. IMO As i am right now, i think this is fine. To some people, this is a way to keep the game they like functional and relevant for longer and considering that the Don't starve series is good, i have no qualms reccomending this game along with the DLCs if you really like it.

Because most people have already broken down general problems with the game i'll break down why the character doesn't work in comparison the flagellant.


While the flagellant is an OP character, not only is he required for the harsh battles in the crimson court, but to ordinary players, he can be just as a liability as he can be powerful. He was a character that rose the skill ceiling allowing people to perform amazing feats in the game without being game breakingly OP for ordinary players or having any liabilities that could not be circumnavigated in the hands of competent players (such as the conditional nature of his healing)


The shieldbreaker is different. Her liability is a 100% event ambush that is more unfair unless one forgoes camping.

Note: this ambush is an unfair one as it adds on a tonne of stress (enough to afflict) unto any shieldbreakers.
Personally, i am a person who doesn't think the shieldbreaker is overly OP. The ability to negate all damage, for the most part, isn't that powerful since, she is still susceptible to dots (The biggest killers IMO since you cant negate that damage without flagellant's regen skill) and stress. The only true times where id consider it useful is with the prophet, as his damage is extreme. I.e Its hard to predict damage so blocking for a single ally isnt that OP. Her damage and guard removal is pretty well balanced with her lack of health

While i know its possible (and this is probably going to be my strategy if this isn't changed) , i think that removing such an integral part of gameplay for the sake of a character doesn't feel right. Additionally, it constricts a party to a non-camping style requiring a jester, houndmaster or crusader to lower the stress.

Personally, i would change it to give a stock 20 stress damage dealt to the character and have enemies deal stress damage to only Shieldbreakers in a similar way to revelation deals damage to people without trinkets in the DD.

Don't get this until this becomes irrelavant as this character is fun, but a liability.

QUICK EDIT:

There is a possibility of the campfire being only a temporary quest as when you win you aquire journal entries hinting at progressively harder missions until u meet the 3rd and final enemy

For ow this review will remain negative but speculatively on this idea

So start off with the layout of MBA Jam.
Add a good atmosphere and story (alongside the multiplayer)
Add a ranged attack (The Aura you see that banishes others)
Add RPG elements (e.g Small skill trees, stats that affect things like respawn times and aura lengths)
Add somthing unique to the scoring system (A pyre will take 'damage' based on how powerful your throw is [jumping in the pyre will do the max but will banish the one who scores it])

And you have Pyre.

I defenitely didnt expect a game centrered around a simple basketball style of game to be fun. I thought it would be quite monotonous. I was terribly wrong. While the game does have a 'light' nature (in that the skill trees, stats and events are simple), it pulls through extraordinarily through the synnergy it makes with atmosphere, gameplay and story.

This game's trailer doesn't do it juctice. This game is great

If i had to compare this game to somthing , it would actually be a mix of the gameplay and story of transistor with simple choices regarding loadouts yet meaningful strategy and a difficulty that gives room to play out the game's narrative. Additionally, i would include a bit of micromanaging outside of combat for obtaining things other than money.

While it may look simple, it is a really fun game including obligatory references and jabs at its obvious inspiration (such as a random ranger cameo from a season ago)

Even though my knowledge on Power rangers is limited, i know that this game is a good tribute to it for at least its offkilter story and good gameplay

First of all let me start with a few notes:

The dlc is split into 3 parts:

1 including the flagellant, 1 including the district system and 1 containing the crimson court and blood mechanic.
Im pretty sure that you can seperately add them on meaning as a player, you don't have to expirience the unfairness of it.

While i think all of the content is good, i do know that people won't feel the same way when it comes to the crimson court so, unless you still want to try it out (remember: confidence kills), or want it for the other stuff (which is still good), then go ahead, but i don't myself recommend it for newer players (considering how much it sours the expirience. You should at least play the base game before considering this anyway)

I WOULD recommend this game to any verteran players who are able to deal with the blood mechanic because at the moment it is tolerable for skilled players (and because they fixed the blood to drop at a rate).
Mainly because the flagellant is such a good class and creates an obscene amount of new ways to play (he is after all, a front row healer) and the new district system is great.

I personally am generally neutral to the blood mechanic (since my expirience with this game is so much, that i literally kill everything that inflicts the curse before i can contract the curse), but i think it should be made an option as i do think the game wouldn't feel right without it (especially since it was one of the first things they used to promote the game with)


Summary:
If your new, play the base game first before considering this

If your a vet, this DLC is good (if only for the new class and districts)
