Early Access Review
Scratches the Banished itch with shinier graphics. 8.5/10

However, the game is still in early access so there are bugs and balance issues but nothing game breaking. Has major potential even at this stage.

Early Access Review
I just bought a Rift about a week ago and have been exploring a variety of genres. This one caught my eye because I’m absolutely obsessed with Synthwave and the whole 80’s aesthetic. However, this review is totally unbiased based on that. People rave about Beat Saber and I tried that one for about 15 minutes before I moved on to this one even though there were no reviews and I knew I could be refunded if it felt like an overpriced demo like most VR games seem to be. My roommate and I played everything from Easy to Expert tonight.

PROS:
- Gorgeous aesthetic. Feels really immersive with the music.
- High impact play. If you gotta go fast this game is for you.
- Play is really initiative with music. Everything feels really synced up.
- Feels like you’re gaming, dancing, and working out all in one. The friend I was playing with who is pretty fit and has pretty ripped arms said it was super satisfying at medium and above.
- Each level introduces new elements, even those on the same difficulty. Just like Guitar Hero and other rhythm games this one does recycle some of the same patterns but they still feel original and fun and more are added with each level difficulty.
- Levels are interesting enough to play over and over while trying to master them. My roommate kept wanting to redo a level to beat his high score. I played one several times in a row till I beat his.
- Great music which is always important in a rhythm game and I’m really picky about this seeing as I’m super into synthwave.

CONS:
- Lack of content (but that’s most VR games). I bought this game knowing there wouldn’t be much in as is written in the description and had that fallback refund option if I was sorely disappointed but what’s there is great and worth the price considering how most VR games are these days. At this point I’d pay for DLC (even though I hope the devs don’t do that at this point). I’d love to see the devs get together with indie synthwave artists to produce more content and levels.
- Can be challenging when you first start. All of the orbs you’re supposed to get are mostly the same color and when you see them coming at you it’s hard to tell what’s going on. However, this is what makes it fun to replay a level till you master it.
- Room orientation felt a little off at times. You really do have to find what “sweet spot”. There was an issue with one of the streaks in an easy song where neither my 5’10 friend or I 5’4 could reach.

TL;DR: This game is another one that totally shows off the capabilities for VR. It’s still in Early Access right now but I’m incredibly impressed and can’t wait to see more from the devs.

Do you like broken games with little to no explanation of mechanics? Do you like constantly questioning whether or not certain game features are working or bugged to hell? Do you like games that feel incomplete? Are you a fan of translation errors and confusing text? Well step right up!

This game feels more like an alpha than anything. There are so many things that literally aren't even implemented yet. Weather, chat rooms, rankings, etc. It's all supposed to be there but doesn't work. ONE THING THAT BOTHERS ME THE MOST is that when you mouse over a quest the amount of monsters you need to kill/items to collect is halved on the tooltip meaning they literally doubled the number of things needed for quest completion to double play time. I've gotten stuck in places, quests randomly stop counting up when killing things, The auto-combat bot (yes, there's one of those) stops working occasionally or glitches out. There's really no story, a crappy tutorial, nothing is engaging about this game. There's no way to sort or filter chat messages so it's one long quick scrolling mess which makes it hard to keep up with when you're trying to talk to other players.

I don't know why I've wasted so much time on it but it's easy when you only need to actually do interactive things for maybe 5 minutes every few hours. Right now while writing this I'm auto-killing 120 zombies for a quest I got after killing a bunch of these same zombies.

I played this game when it first came out years and years ago for Windows 95. It's great how there are a lot of pop culture questions but the game doesn't feel dated.
