famed for it's unrelenting punishment on new players, dark souls is one of the best games i have had the displeasure to play. If the atmospheric world design and amazing online features aren't enough to lure you in to the game, the "fun" of the game remains to be it's best and worst quality.

the insane dificulty of it's combat system is confusing and downright offputting to new players. it punishes poor skill, rewards good skill with little more than a feeling of accomplishment, and never hesistates to take that feeling away the next second. all the negatives aside, the game is widely popular for a reason. after getting a hang of how the game handles and some basic strategies, it becomes a total blast and a thrill to play.

it also has a very intruiging multiplayer aspect as well. using an item in the game (humanity) causes you to rid yourself of hollow. doing this brings about some opertunities for yourself, but also opens your world to other players who can "invade" your world to kill you, and alternatively to summon others to your world to help you. this is not however, a co op game, and summoning players can be a hassle if you want a specific person, and only lasts until the areas boss is killed.

if it were gameplay alone i would give
9.5/10

however, the prepare to die edition for pc is an absolute terrible port to the pc and is unplayable without a controller. it will also require Durante's "DSfix", else it looks disgusting. with these problems it drops it down to an
8/10 purely for the hassle to get it set up.
