This game was a fantastic experience. Usually Atlus puts out a lot of bangers and this game is no exception. The gameplay loop is very similar to the Persona series, and they share a lot of the same DNA. However, the formula works, and this game makes it just unique enough to make it feel like its own experience. The world building goes crazy, theres a good amount of lore to read into if you so choose. The messages it teaches are kind of generic, but generally pretty good ones, and is much of a surprise some of the things they included considering Atlus' track record with the persona series. My only gripes are I felt like sometimes they would exposition dump a lot more than just trying to incorporate story telling into the world through exploration and battling, but its really only towards the end of the game it becomes a "problem". And another point I saw that I agree with is the fact that every character can learn the same moves set, which can remove some of their uniqueness other than their stats. Otherwise, very very solid game, worth playing if youre looking for a new story rich RPG to sink your teeth into.

This game is wholly underrated, and it's a shame that you don't hear many people in the common gaming sphere talk about it. Hi-Fi Rush is an absolutely incredible game in just about every aspect. The gameplay is super engaging, the constant switch between combat and platforming never loses its flow because of how everything is rhythm based. The music choice, while I personally am unfamiliar with most of the licensed songs, fit well with the tone the game is trying to set in a given moment, and really gets you pumped for both combat and just exploring. The environments are lively, as it too moves to the rhythm of the music, and there are NPCs with silly dialogue in every down moment. The graphical aspect might not be the strongest, as even though the cell shaded graphics look pretty good and the overall art style inspired by anime and western comics is refreshing for a western game, there were definitely moments where facial details were obscured by the shaders, or there were times where the art style felt inconsistent, with both renders and cutscenes. However, that is just nitpicking, and does not bring down how the rest of the game looks. There was most likely some inspirations from certain JRPGs, and I personally like that. The story was pretty good, if not a little rushed towards the end. The characters all had some sort of development that you could notice gradually throughout the game in the dialogue and decisions they make, which makes the characters feel more genuine during the more emotional beats (which there really is only one but that is besides the point). The world is built well, there are references to certain computer logs you can find throughout the levels that are mentioned again, and the relationship between the main cast was believable. All in all, 9/10 really great game.

Being fairly new to the Persona franchise, I didn't really know what I was getting into when I played this game. After nearly completing the game, I can say that it is absolutely fantastic. It actually turned out to be more of a Life-Simulator (which in this case is a good thing), where you choose what you do from day to day, with a few events and holidays here and there to break up the pacing. There is also a big emphasis on social interactions with your fellow characters, which feel (imo) very personalized, albeit a little linear.
The RPG aspect actually takes more of a backseat to the story yet still going hand in hand. This, however, does not mean that it isn't that in-depth. The combat mechanics are pretty interesting, as there are specific character synergies that allow them to perform special moves, knock-downs that when done to every enemy allows for an "All-Out-Attack" which deals massive damage, as well as follow up attacks, which have a chance of occurring after knocking an enemy down. It isn't perfect though, as it felt certain bosses would spike in difficulty, or be too easy. In addition, it felt as though grinding was the only way to progress, as I would constantly be severely under-leveled for the next. Do take it as a grain of salt, as I didn't indulge myself to in-depth with its deeper intricacies. Speaking of these intricacies, they are the core of how well you do in battle, besides just picking up gear and equipping it. This being the Persona, which if you are familiar with other RPG's, basically replaces magic attacks, as well as determining what the characters weaknesses, strengths, and all around stats are. The main character is capable of creating Persona "builds" by combining multiple and "passing down" certain abilities, while the other characters get one set Persona. This system of Personas is serviceable, but can be annoying at times, especially if you are like myself who plays more casually.
This isn't too much of a problem though because as long as you aren't a purist, you are able to fine tune the difficulty settings to your like if you are in for a more casual experience, without jeopardizing the ending. The overall game feel isn't too bad as well (at least from personal experience). The graphics can be a little rough, but it comes as a given being a direct port rather than a remaster, while at the same time still having some polish. The sound design and voice acting, while not too memorable, was still very good(Although, I've only played using English Dub, so sue me). The plot and characters didn't seem too bad either.
Overall, I think I'd give this game a 8/10
Im not really that critical of the games I play though, so its up to you to take my word for it.
Edit: After finally completing this game? Buy it, do yourself a favor.
or idk, just watch Zero Punctuation's take, it seems to be a pretty honest one.
