There's really no doubt about it. This is the quintessential game of all games on steam - the icon for an entire culture, in a way. It's a damn good game :D

Early Access Review
Arthur Morris (1922–2015) was an Australian cricketer who played 46 Test matches between 1946 and 1955. He is best known as a prominent member of the "Invincibles", a team that went undefeated on their tour of England in 1948. In his teens, Morris became the first player ever to score two centuries on his first-class debut. After serving in the Australian Army during the Second World War, he made his Test debut against England. He scored a century in his third match and two more hundreds in the following Test, becoming only the second Australian to score a hundred in each innings of an Ashes Test. By 1950, he was Australia's vice-captain and had amassed nine Test centuries with a batting average over 65. Thereafter his form declined, and his career ended after his first wife became terminally ill in 1955. In later life, Morris served as a trustee of the Sydney Cricket Ground for over twenty years. Selected in the Australian Cricket Board's Team of the Century in 2000 and inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2001, he is widely regarded as one of Australia's most successful left-handed batsmen.

Elite Dangerous...
Hmm
It's a weird one...
I will attempt to explain it without actually reviewing it by giving a real example of some gameplay:

Exploration:
I bought an Asp, equipped some decent gear and set off in search of cool stuff. I was in awe of stars and black holes that I had seen in videos and I wanted to try and find them. I ended up going for about 2 weeks, straight out, and it was the most boring thing i've done in a video game. Here's what it's like:
Step 1: Plot a course to a far away star
Step 2: Turn your ship towards the next star in the journey
Step 3: Press "J"
Step 4: Wait like 30 seconds (Recommended you have a video in the background that you can Shift+Tab to so you don't get bored watching the unchanging hyperspace background)
Step 5 (Optional): Scan the system
Step 6: Repeat steps 2-5 until you get there.

Bounty Hunting:
Step 1: Acquire Vulture
Step 2: Google "best res sites"
Step 3: Find one near you
Step 4: Go there
Step 5: Go to the RES
Step 6: Wait
Step 7: Kill pirates
Step 8: Repeat steps 6&7 about 10-30 times
Step 9: Cash bounties
Step 10: Repeat steps 5-9 a lot

There is NO VARIATION outside these routines.

EDIT - Review is now positive, but same text. This is because I really understand now how hard it is to make a game like this, with the example of No Man's Sky being a great indicator of that. I think that the game is beautiful, immersive and many other good things but it still is a bit grindy. Also, the Horizons DLC is ridiculously expensive.

I believe that I have played more than almost every person in the reviews I've seen so far, so I'm pretty qualified to tell you that Risk of Rain is an incredible game. I spent many, many hours just getting better gear and killing more monsters without much reason because the game is very well made and addicting too. I would give anything, anything at all for a sequel with mod support. Maybe one day somebody in the community can get the blessing of the developers and go ahead and make that. However, there are some problems, namely bugs and crashes and also a lag thing where the lightning circle thingy (I haven't played in a while) gets huge and lags everything.

This game is something out of a disgusting wormhole. I was positive. I have tried it for like 10 minutes, most of which was spent trying to find my mouse in the character creation screen, which happened to be invisible. Next disaster was the fact that the ship responded only to the spacebar, which moved the ship diagonally to the bottom corner. Everything else except the mouse was unresponsive, and it took some time trying to figure out the GUI for the options menu to see if the cursor was disabled. Wtf? Help? I am unlucky? Or is it the game?
