I've played this game on, and off for almost a decade.
Less and less has been put towards maintaining a fun status-quo within the game: be it tier dynamics, battle-ratings, incomprehensibly ridiculous vehicle placements and on occasion absolutely broken, outsourced models that are either extraordinarily subpar or missing entire collision boxes causing them to be penetrated by .303 despite being "80mm" thick.
It's more than clear that over time, Gaijin stopped being a passionate developer making a game because they held some love for what they were creating and became a business - operating within the median between incredibly arcade-y and frankly dead games like World Of Warplanes or the monolith of "barrier to entry" that is DCS. No other game does exactly what this one does, and it's very clearly a double edged sword for the player as unfortunately over the past decade Gaijin has come to learn that too, and that means they can gouge people trying to enjoy the slim hours they have off for premium time by effectively creating a negative feedback loop within their own economy, more profound in the newer and newer content such as ground forces. You play your tank, you eventually get turret tossed by an enemy in a tank - or in a plane (sometimes before you even have a chance to even retaliate, nevermind find out where this person is) and post-match pay a fee to be able to play your tank again. There's an option for free repair, which would be useful were it not the fact they purpose made the timer on said free repair several days, even weeks at the very highest echelons of vehicles. Their monopoly has allowed them to create an inherently predatory economic system due to the fact that for the average PC owner, War Thunder has the lowest barrier of entry while still maintaining semblances of realism - allowing them to punish individuals who will not or cannot pay for premium time or vehicles. The review score, and the other countless reviews surely have more informed and dynamic views - as I said, on and off with War Thunder. And we didn't even get to talk about the Russian Bias!
