A very good point-and-click game on its own but a step-down from the original Syberia. The puzzles were ridiculously hard and I found it hard to empathize with characters. Not to mention the ending was abrupt and left a lot to desire.

Regardless, it is a worthy sequel to Syberia but I would most definitely recommend the first game if anyone is looking to jump into this genre. The story is great!

'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell:Conviction' turned out to be a fairly underwhelming experience to be honest.

The gameplay was simplistic and largely featureless. Picking up bodies is supposed to be a standard in stealth games which Conviction lacked, sadly. Regenerative health was done right as it took only a few shots for Sam to die. The gadgets were decent but I was left hoping they were more effective. Mark and Execute was a fun feature. It made things easy but I also found lots of utility for it. But all in all, the gameplay lacked variety.

The stealth segments were great and usually very tough. There was no option to distract guards without being detected so the only course left was to kill or sneak around them. It made stealth a lot more challenging this way. The absence of air vents was a welcome subtraction from a game belonging to the stealth genre.

AI was buggy. Enemies would either behave very intelligently or play entirely dumb. At times, even those Sonar goggle ninjas were unable to pinpoint my position. Enemy AI took a lot away from the overall experience.

Mission structures were decent. Level design was great and the settings very picturesque but the missions, themselves, were fairly linear. The plot was made to appear complex but there was very little underneath the surface actually.
The presentation was excellent! The way objectives would get projected on the walls........ very cool stuff.

I wish this game was more feature-rich and had a better variety of gameplay elements. Conviction had almost everything in its favour but Ubisoft blew it. This game could've been so much more......

Just ended "Tomb Raider" and I leave very very impressed with this well-crafted game.

Exploration was very rewarding. Plenty of crates and artifacts to collect that increase your XP and allow you to improve your abilities and upgrade weapons. Raiding tombs was a lot of fun but the puzzles could've been made lengthier and more tougher. This was one place where Assassin's Creed excels, in my opinion.

The game was a looker alright. The island of Yamatai was beautiful and boasted of every sort of terrain starting from jungles to icy mountains, shanty towns, caves and sandy coasts. Crystal Dynamics nailed it as far as the graphics aspect is concerned. The visuals were breathtakingly beautiful particularly when viewed from a vantage point.

The story was great and the voice-overs top notch. Diaries scattered through the game provided a much needed insight into the characters and background plot. I especially liked how there was full audio narration for the diaries and notes.

The gameplay was seamless and very well done. Lara crouches behind a cover automatically and allows the player to engage in combat from behind it. Bows felt satisfying and the weapons, although scarce, could be upgraded to improve efficiency and add new features. The mission structures were largely linear and many gameplay segments involved QTEs but I didn't mind it much. Gamepay was focused and did everything right.

Lara's transformation from a survivor to hunter was amazing! Early in the game you could actually hear her pleading to the enemies to stop fighting. She's almost unrecognisable by the time you finish this game. And it's all perfectly believable after the ordeal Lara goes through.

Campaign was the perfect length. I clocked in around 24 hours with 75% completion. And I'm sure 100% completion can be achieved in 30 hours at most.

Finally, I appreciate the fact that Lara Croft's character wasn't sexualized. ♥♥♥♥ should take note when making games involving female protagonists and characters

'Deus Ex' is easily amongst the top five RPG games I've ever played. Ancient PC and backwards-compatibility *cough* is a match made in heaven. I'm a bit late to the party but glad I ended this absolute classic.

Coming to the game, the environments were expansive, open, involved a lot of running around and backtracking. This was in contrast to Human Revolution which proved to be fairly linear in comparison. Voice-overs were monotonous and emotionless. But I didn't mind it too much as it suits the entire grim cyberpunk-themed setting of the game. HR was no different in this regard either.

Mission structures were very well done. Lots of alternative routes to complete objectives. Many games have a broken system but Deus Ex was flexible enough to cater to both playing styles. I liked how you could go full stealth, all guns blazing or settle with a mixture of the two.

Exploration rewarded bonus points which were redeemable in the form of skill upgrades. It was virtually impossible to fully upgrade all skills early in the game so my protagonist never felt over-powered at any point. My main gripe was with the augmentations. Apart from a few augs, I never really found any utility for the others and I tried a variety of playing styles.

The story was excellent! It was rich but not too convoluted or branched-out as is the norm in RPGs these days. The plot was focused and almost all side missions had relevance to the main storyline. And the story characters were largely interesting, in a peculiar sort of way.

Some observations about its prequel, Human Revolution. I like how it stuck to its roots and also fixed many of the original's shortcomings. Hacking, for instance, was a much improved feature and augs were better utilized.

In terms of similarities, playing style was appointed at the very start. You get to choose between a knife (if you like hand-to-hand combat) or a crossbow (if long-range is your preferred method). Some unforeseen choices determine the fate of your friends and allies. Boss fights were, again, laughably easy. And not to forget, multiple endings right at the final juncture.

I loved this game. Had the option to apply mods to improve the textures and lighting but I chose to play it in its original glory. Even after more than a decade, this game not only holds but has also aged very well.

'Syberia' is a point-and-click adventure game that was released (way back) in 2002 to critical acclaim. I had been meaning to play it for a long time and just got around to doing so.

The story revolves around an American lawyer, Kate Walker, who is sent to a town in the French Alps to finalize the sale of an Automaton company. It should be a straight-forward task but things take a turn which ends up in her traveling across various fictional locations in Europe.

The gameplay was fairly straight-forward. It's a third-person point-and-click mystery game. Very similar to early LucasArts games where you have an inventory and dialogue notebook. It wasn't frustratingly difficult unlike Frogwares' Holmes games so that's a very big positive.

Settings were very atmospheric and the art-style unique and extremely beautiful. The storytelling was deep and apart from the main plot, the player also got insights into Kate's personal life as the hours wore on. Notebooks, letters, diary entries and pamphlets were essential to understanding the background story, which was very interesting.

Back-tracking and running around can be a bit of a grind. That's part of the genre but regardless, Syberia is one of the best of its kind. It has a strong story, interesting characters, deep story and beautiful locations. Have to give it to Microids for their art style. Wonderful!

'Mass Effect' and 'Splinter Cell' had a child named 'Alpha Protocol'. It turned out to be a flawed genius.

There are a lot of faults with this game. Broken gameplay mechanics, PS2-era graphics, inconsistent frame-rates and an uninspired beginning. But if one can look past its many shortcomings, this game turns out to be an absolute gem. A global espionage-RPG in the true sense.

To start things off, you first pick your character's class: Soldier (firearms), Field Agent (stealth), Tech Specialists (hacking) or Freelancer (a combination of skills of the player's choice). Each class determines how well you perform a specific task in the field.

With regards to gameplay, I'm sure the devs were targeting a realistic approach to combat. For instance, you have to aim at a target for few seconds to let the reticule converge. Thus, ensuring that every gunfight turned out to be a challenge. The melee system comprised of martial arts which allowed you to knockout enemies either stealthily or engage them head-on. All character abilities were upgradeable with sufficient experience points (XP).

Hacking was one of the highlights of the game. There was a unique system in place each for hacking computers, opening locks or bypassing keypads and alarms. Many people found the hacking system frustrating but I think it was fairly straight-forward. Challenging, yes, but very rewarding in the end.

The graphics were rubbish, plain and simple. Character animations were clunky, anti-aliasing horrible, lighting awful, movements jerky and texture loading very slow. These were some of the biggest down-sides of an otherwise fantastic game. Level designs were very good though with plenty of alternative routes to complete objectives.

The plot is where this game really shines. The story is gripping and opens up once you're done with the Saudi missions. And it hurtles you head-first into a global conspiracy mess. Allies (and enemies) are made along the way and your treatment of them has future implications in the form of gaining intel, weapons, money (if allies) or facing problems and hurdles (if enemies). Reading their dossier in advance helps you choose favourable options during dialogue sequences. Characters are interesting and unlike many other RPG games, dialogue never feels bland.

Alpha Protocol needs a sequel to set its problems right. It requires perseverance and patience to overlook its many problems and bear with its frustrating nature but underneath all that, this game is a true gem. One not to be missed.
