For something just added as a free DLC too an already good game, the butchers circus is a surprisingly in depth PVP gamemode with a lot of skill, and a little bit of luck, involved. most of the launch bugs have been patched out and i think its a real gem, plus, its FREE.

for 10 dollars, you get a p high quality xcom-lite spin off. the breaching mechanic reminds me of what phantom doctrine does a bit, and i like it a lot.

its a bit small on the content side, but as a concept i think its definitely worth giving money towards. what content ive seen so far is very promising, it definitely nails the whole realistic space movement thing. it feels precisely like KSP but in 2d, which i think it was aiming for.

EDIT: after 60 hours of this game (half of which were in the last 2 weeks as of time of writing this, 6/15/2022) and more than 2 years later (original review in feb 2020) ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ its like digital CRACK. recent updates have added a plethora of new ships, new equipments, new tuning options, new QOL features, and new events, and this game still just keeps on giving. the grind may see slow at first but it ends up getting VERY quick due to income from rare events and superior mining equipment allowing the streamlining of mining. It somehow sprinkles just enough unique content inbetween repetitive acts to keep you playing, looking for more of the new content while also have a enjoyable base of mining to keep you going inbetween the unique events/finds. this game is a MUST HAVE! out of all my hard sci-fi space games ive played this one scratches the exploration/discovery itch the bestest.

its a bit laggy in the late game but its fun, and it has awesome mods. 8/10

EDIT: Just played a game of SD44 with the Storm in the west mod, and had more fun in it than any SD 2 game. this game SUCKS. dozens of divisions yet they all feel the same SD44 with SITW, each division plays uniquely.

0/10 get SD44 with DLC and SITW mod instead

EDIT: its not as bad as i recently said or as good as i previously even earlier said. i give it a CAUTIOUS recommendation-only play if u like grinding attrition and dont like decisivie battles and maneuver warfare.

Lots of people are giving it negative reviews about the maps not being like they were in the alpha. however, in one developer response they said that they WOULD still add it, and its still in early access, so i hope people remember this when they write their reviews. the games not finished yet, and taking that into account i think the game is extremely fun, with team play being important

with the release of 2.2.4 beta, the performance issues people were complaining about seems mostly fixed. thus, id give this DLC a good review for the content it adds and for paradox's devotion to the quality of their game, even with negative reviews, and i hope that others may too change their reviews to mirror paradoxes work on their game.

Although im not the biggest fan of the art style, the game itself improves on other games in the series with various new additions, such as online speed for rapid games, and new district system, etc.
