The single player campaign is great, the DLC slightly less so.

It used to install a rootkit (Denuvo), but they seem to have gotten rid of it. This game may be under the Bethe$da umbrella, but I think it's in good hands. Id software seems to have enough autonomy to make this game good.

Early Access Review
I had never played the original game (HL1), so I don't have much of a reference point as to how different this game is from the original. That being said, I thought this game was amazing from start to finish. The level of polish on this game is comparable to a valve game, like HL2. The fact that this game has been developed by essentially 20 people in a discord server over a literal decade only makes that feat better.

the bots make valve matchmaking unplayable, and community servers are hit or miss.

I remember when this game was actually good. It's not worth getting into now if you're a new player.
