It's fine. Denuvo sucks, so expect some frame drops every now and then. What I really like about this is how *not* Monster Hunter it is. Sure, you go fight big monsters and gather materials for weapons and armor, but the flow is much quicker and smoother than Monster Hunter.

The traps you build are very much akin to Monster Hunter traps, just a bit more involved. The joke that goes around is that Wild Hearts is Monster Hunter with Fortnite mechanics. Trust me when I say this: You can never be so wrong about a game before. You're not going to crank 90s on these giant monsters. You're actually meticulously placing the blocks in a pattern such that it creates larger traps. A 2x3 array of blocks makes a large wall that's capable of stopping charging monsters, an array of 2x3 of torches makes fireworks to pull down and blind flying monsters, things like that. It's actually pretty involved. As cool as this system is, it is a little buggy and sometimes the build snapping doesn't work well, especially on uneven ground.

Everything else in regards to combat is fast and responsive. Not to say Monster Hunter isn't; it's designed to make you feel like you're lumbering around a weapon 5x bigger than you are, after all. All the weapons are very unique as well. They are all very fun to use and the move sets vary so much from each other. Those of you that use the Long Sword in Monster Hunter, try out the Bladed Wagasa in Wild Hearts. Where the Long Sword is focused on dodging and counterattacking, the Bladed Wagasa is focused around parrying and capitalizing on staggering the monster.

Wild Hearts just has a different feel to it, and that's what I appreciate about it. I don't think it was trying to be Monster Hunter, rather it was trying to be its own thing with big monsters. I really hope EA lets Koei Tecmo update this game because it is honestly the most fun I've had with a Monster Hunter competitor in a long time.

Would I recommend this game? Yeah, I would. Just don't expect any DLC after the main game unless EA starts believing in projects like these.

I thought I would dislike this game. I was more of an RTS guy. Boy, was I ever wrong. Something about Civ just makes me enjoy waiting to take my turn.

I don't know why I'm still playing this old ass game. Something about it keeps drawing me back. In terms of sustainability, there are only two games that I always come back to and one of them is Team-Mother-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥-Fortress 2. Something about the gameplay keeps drawing me back in. The Bot Crisis sucks for sure, but all the community servers that I grew up playing anyway are all cozy and familiar. Don't change, Skial, Uncletopia, Lazy Purple's. I wonder if you're doing well, Nemu's. If you're no longer around, I hope you guys found something in life that you enjoy doing. I'll always remember the friendships I've made playing this dumb shooter with deep movement mechanics, wacky characters, and excellent (for the most part) level design. I hope Valve isn't done with this game. One last, big update to make up for the 5 years of silence we've had. And when that time comes, you bet your ass I'll be back, rocket jumping around pl_upward or hitting those juicy air shots on cp_5Gorge, performing espionage on pl_barnblitz, landing flicks on pl_badwater. I'll be back. I always come back.
