So, the DOTA2 event last week didn't draw much attention, so I figured we could try again.

Would anyone like to play this week? I heard a good bit on interest in L4D2 earlier in the course - I'd love to jump into a game with people from this course.

Coincidentally, L4D2 is on sale on Steam for $4.99 until Friday! I have my own L4D2 server and more gameplay hours than I'd like to admit, so I'd be happy to help show some new players the ropes if needed. Or, if enough experienced players want to jump in, I'll go toe-to-toe with you in vs. mode :-)

Hello Everyone!

To piggyback onto Week 3's content, how about we choose a game that could bring to light the idea of apprenticeship in learning to play games. What better game for putting the theory of apprenticeship than DOTA2?

I'll be the first to admit: I'm not an expert DOTA2 player. In fact, I've never played it past the tutorial stages. So, in order to make this event successful, I'll need some expert DOTA2 players from among our ranks to volunteer to help organize and mentor during the event. I will post two threads in the group forums - one for people to sign up to be mentors, and one for people who re not experts to sign up to play. Once we see how the numbers are shaking out, we can decide how to structure the event as far as getting everyone in game together.

As for a date, I'll propose Tuesday, October 29 at 8PM Eastern Daylight Time (which would translate to Wednesday, October 30 at midnight for GMT). That should put us outside of Valve's usual Tuesday 7PM Steam maintenance window.

Hello everyone! It's good to see a group of like minded people coming together on Steam around the Video Games & Learning MOOC! I'd love to get an event scheduled within the next week or so to organize some gameplay amongst the group members, but I'm waiting a bit until more people have a chance to see the group. I believe there will be a course announcement regarding social media that might draw more people towards our group, so our numbers might be growing shortly.

So far, we have had interest in events with the following games:

Team Fortress 2
DOTA2
Left 4 Dead 2

If there is a game you'd like to see us schedule an event for, feel free to put up a discussion post or drop a comment on the front page of the group. Also, we will need a good group of experienced players in any game that we choose to schedule an event for, so if you are willing to help new players learn that'd be awesome! We can deal more with the logistics of mentors once we get an event scheduled.

Finally, I am located in the US Eastern Daylight Timezone (UTC-4). If people from the other side of the world want to schedule events, reach out on the group discussions and I'll help get something posted up for you.
