Principauté de Monaco

The Year is 1970. The House of Grimaldi has fallen, Prince Rainier III and his government have been deposed in a popular coup. A wealthy gambler, and banker, Lucien Pedro has taken the throne of Monaco and been crowned Prince. After leading the Popular uprising of 1969, Lucien Pedro was enthroned at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco. In order to depose the popular Prince Rainier, Lucien managed to buy off many Government and State officials and lead a massive publicity campaign to undermine the monarchy. Lucien was expelled from Monaco in 1968 but continued to pursue his bid for the throne from Switzerland, where he had managed to transfer large sums of his money before his accounts were frozen. Returning to Monaco by popular demand in 1969, Lucien entered the city as a conqueror. The people embraced him, and they marched on the Prince's Palace to remove Rainier. The French government managed to get Rainier out via helicopter, just moments before the Palace fell. Rainier was taken to Paris where he currently is living in exile with his wife, Grace Kelly.

While Lucien has founded a new dynasty and managed to keep most of the government under his control, it remains unclear if he will last much longer as Prince. Various elements inside and outside of Monaco are working in the shadows for the return of the Grimaldi family and the destruction of everything Lucien Pedro has worked to build.

One thing is sure though, the recent political intrigue and unrest as lead to a boom in Monaco's casino and tourism industries....
