NOVA (Working Title) is a top-down arcade-style shoot-em-up set in space. Inspired by games like Raiden X and Galaga, but with an RPG twist. In NOVA there is exploration in the form of an overworld, levelling up, character customization, character stats that can be levelled, D&D inspired character sheet, plus weapon and parts choices.

In the game there are 9 alien races to play against, each with custom ship behaviour and a custom final boss. Each race has its own overworld, with 8 discoverable planets. Planets act as the individual levels the player will progress through, with differing levels of difficulty. Levels can be replayed afterwards to grind for XP or Items, and the planets location is recorded in a map the player has for each overworld. Once you conquer a race, the next one is unlocked. In addition to replaying planets, players can switch between overworlds in the Navigator, to freely play against any previously conquered races.

Overworlds will contain more than just planets; overworlds will also have a shop that players can buy and sell items at, asteroid barriers, randomly generated enemy ships that scout around that can be attacked as part of a random encounter, secret discoverable bonuses hidden in the overworld, special overworld-specific random events, as well as wormhole shortcuts (if you can find them).

NOVA will also include a full Codex of alien ships, planets, races, and more.

Currently, NOVA (WT) development is going strong, with all UI pipeline, overworld generation, weapon and parts subsystem, character sheet, stats sheet, level generation completed and the first race has been completed. Work is moving on to the second race, which will be much faster now that the boilerplate mechanics have been finished.
