First, watch other people jump. See how they bend their knees and then push off the ground with their feet. I know it sounds silly, but so many people learn things by watching others do it first. It's like taking a picture with your brain so you know what you're supposed to do, and how you're supposed to do it.

Then start by standing in the middle of the floor and just start bending both your knees together. Up and down, up and down. You are training your brain that in order to jump, your body must first get some 'springing action' which is caused by your knees being bent.

Then bend your knees and push off the ground with both your feet. You don't have to jump high, that will come with practice. But just getting lift off the ground will also train your brain how to make these movements.

Also, try jumping down off something first, like the bottom stair onto the floor. As time goes on, once your brain has learned that your knees have to bend, then it will become automatic and you won't even think about it anymore. At that point, start jumping up from the floor to the first stair.

It took my daughter many years to learn how to jump. She suffered a brain injury and these things were very difficult for her, but not anymore. Now she jumps all over the place.
