I know a lot of you are antsy for info on Deadlock. Here is a recent post made by Ryan on our modDB page!

Firstly, we're good. The biggest challenge to making a quality mod is the absence of money. Rent, food and student loan payments have to come before a penniless passion project. That in mind, a few months ago the team experienced a loss of leadership. Andrew and I both had to dip out for a while for completely unrelated personal reasons. I spent a good poriton of my time pursuing a seat at Army OCS. I won't leave until March. Now that my life has settled a bit, I'm able to plug back into Deadlock.

More than anything, what we need now is an animator/rigger to produce the skeletons for our characters. Several guys have joined to tackle the project. Either they've got the experience but no time to do the work, or don't have enough experience to feel comfortable with the responsibility. We've come to a bit of an impasse because of this, but it's nothing the right person can't suss out. If you're interested, or know someone who is, hit us up!

One of the exciting things to see from my seat is how our little enterprise is evolving. Instead of just straight news I want to share a bit of that excitement.

New ventures are kind of like the wild west; you have a vision but no established way of realizing it. You're also short on manpower. As people join, it takes them a bit of time to get comfortable. Members need to get to know one another, the structure of the project, and their place within it. Some ditch before they acclimate. For virtual teams like ours, it's even more challenging. Communication is weaker and the infrastructure is less easily intuited. General inexperience also makes it more difficult by retarding confidence and lending ambiguity to basic issues.

What I'm starting to see is the beginning of a real maturation. I'd say the design has been well managed since day one, but intelligent production principles have taken a bit of effort to establish. We've been fortunate to have a lot of talent and experience on the team to pull from, and several guys who pull all-nighters because they care intensely. For my part, I've tried to focus on the infrastructure as much as I can. It's decidedly a work in progress, but we now have the standards and coordination to move quite nimbly. Now is really the time to juice it up.

In that vein, we've added a second coder, Andy Watson. It was good fun to work with he, Oli and Eric this morning. Look for us to be popping in and out of Deadlock on Steam as we test. Gregory's initial rig is in the pipe, Alex is working on two character models, Stefan is working on one and more color concepts, Eric is building out an alpha map, and Andrew is beginning to play with AI nodes. Stay tuned for media.

I want to thank everyone who has submitted a voice acting audition and/or lines! We're loving the content. Keep it coming! It's been a while since my last release, so this has a double dose of updates.

To start off, our team has gotten much larger! We've added three more 3D Artists: Bojin, Paul, and Alex. They are diligently working on the models and characters that will bring the DEADLOCK world to life.

Our new Audio Director Tony, with the help of Andy (our audio technician) is tackling the gargantuan task of recording and perfecting every sound we plan on using in the mod.

Though it was a slow week for 3D Non-Character development, we have had some major strides in Zombie Art development, thanks to the lovely/grotesque work of Hannah. We've posted the bulk of her work on our ModDB Page at http://www.moddb.com/mods/deadlock

From this, Alex and Bojin have begun working on models for the zombies, and some early stills of these will be released soon on our website. Starting this week, all 3D promo materials will be released a week early on our forums before they are released on forums like this one. We're working hard to keep our community entertained between updates. We've added a Zombie Apocalypse Role-Play section to our forums and our L4D Parties have also been growing. We're currently looking into getting a couple dedicated servers up to make hosting the games easier for our staff, as well as a means for trying out some custom gameplay.
