Nintendo is continuing its drip-feed of new Splatoon features with the Splash-O-Matic!, the third extra weapon to become available since the game originally launched.

Splash-O-Matic! is a rapid-fire weapon, although its stats have yet to be detailed.

This new weapon will be available at 7PM Pacific / 10PM Eastern / 3AM UK / 4AM CET.

Nintendo's next free update for Splatoon will introduce the paintbrush weapon, also being referred to as the Inkbursh, according to the Nintendo UK Twitter account. It is being released tomorrow morning (Saturday 6 June).

This follows a tweet from the Japanese Splatoon account that gives further detail. Translated it reads: "The weapon shaped like a writing brush is weak, but the speed at which you can leave a trail behind you is high.

"Flank your opponents from behind with a barrage of ink." The tweet goes on to say that the inkbrush's throwable weapon is the sprinkler while its special is the tornado ink strike.

Images of the brush in action were also posted to the Japanese account, which we have compiled at the top of this story. The weapon was featured in a few of the game's pre-release trailers and TV ads, so there is some anticipation among fans for its arrival.

Nintendo caused quite a bit of heated discussion when it confirmed that online shooter Splatoon would lack voice chat. The ability to communicate with fellow players is a staple of other online shooters, but Nintendo decided against including it in this ink-covered offering. Critics immediately started sharpening their knives, accusing the Japanese company of being over-cautious on the matter.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nintendo Life that goes live later today, Splatoon producer Hisashi Nogami spoke a little about the reasons for leaving voice chat out of the game. His comments tally up with Nintendo's previous stance, but he does at least admit that the company is aware of how important voice communication is in online gaming - it's just that the risk meant it wasn't worth factoring it in:
We want everyone to play this game from the same point, so that all players – those who haven't played shooters before, as well as those who have – can enjoy the game. Getting to this though meant going through a selection process for all features that should appear in the game, and as part of this process we decided to leave out voice chat.
We think there are two reasons for wanting to use it: to play strategically, and to know what you opponent is feeling. We designed the game so that it's still possible to play strategically, while also giving due consideration so that there is no extreme advantage one way or the other. In terms of knowing what your opponent is feeling, we really do understand the fun that can be had with this, but we hope that you will also understand that it can also have a negative effect too.

Nintendo will be providing Splatoon with free DLC throughout the Summer to keep the game fresh, and a new image has appeared online which allegedly showcases some of the upcoming DLC. Classify this as a rumor for now, but you can clearly see some new weapons that could be joining Splatoon, including a new paint roller and some more cool-looking custom weapons.

The big daddy of the image though clearly would have to be both variants of the NES Zapper as a gun. Originally, the NES Zapper was the dark grey as seen in the picture, but was then changed to the bright orange to make it look more like a toy than a real weapon. While this is a rumor for now, it would be rather nostalgic to see the trusty NES Zapper make an appearance in Splatoon.
