Left 4 Dead modified to get MA15+ Rating - News.com.au article

A toned-down version of Left 4 Dead 2 has been given a rating of MA15+ after the original was refused classification last month.

According to the Classification Board's report, the modified version removes considerable amounts of gore from gameplay.

“The board notes that the game no longer contains depictions of decapitation, dismemberment, wound detail or piles of dead bodies lying about the environment,” it said.

“No wound detail is shown and the implicitly dead bodies and blood splatter disappear as they touch the ground.”

The report said melee weapons such as “axes, crowbars and chainsaws” were still featured in the game.

Electronic Arts spokesperson Cameron Jenkins said the company still hoped the original version of the game would receive a classification.

“We are waiting until we get the results back from the resubmitted full version, just in case it gets classified after working with the (Office of Film and Literature Classification), we would much prefer to release that one,” he said.

According to gaming blog Kotaku, developer Valve submitted the modified version to ensure the game could be released in November and that Australians would receive a free update to the edited version if the original game was classified.

Not to mention L4D has decapitations, gore, dead bodies lying around and blood spatter on the screen. They are so damn inconsistant they need to sack themselves because they can't make a proper judgement.

thats gay with the whole rating board why didnt they put the mass rating on cod 5 then thats got decapitaion blood loose mass bodys shooting off of limbs and wound detail WTF IS UP WITH ARE GOVENMENT

The Australian Government isn't going to change its laws just because a Steam group wants it to be changed. The Australian Government probably doesn't even know this group exists. It's going to be censored so we may as well get used to the idea. I love Left 4 Dead as much as the next guy but at the end of the day, it’s just a game, it’s not going to wreck our lives if the zombies heads don't explode when shot.

I would have to agree with Blitzkrieg, the censoring is overkill in comparison to some of the brutal games out there. L4D2 should almost be somewhere along the equivelant of a T rated game here in the US after that kind of censoring.

Yeah, but its a watered down version with less gore. That is, unless the full game is allowed classification, then we get the full version instead.
