Cherry blossom is an omen of good fortune and is also an emblem of love, affection and represents spring. Cherry blossoms are an enduring metaphor for the fleeting nature of life, and as such are frequently depicted in art.

"Hanami" is the centuries-old practice of picnicking under a blooming sakura or ume tree. The custom is said to have started during the Nara Period (710–794) when it was ume blossoms that people admired in the beginning. But by the Heian Period (794–1185), sakura came to attract more attention and hanami was synonymous with sakura. From then on, in tanka and haiku, "flowers" meant "sakura." The custom was originally limited to the elite of the Imperial Court, but soon spread to samurai society. Under the sakura trees, people had lunch and drank sake in cheerful feasts.

In Japan cherry blossoms also symbolize clouds due to their nature of blooming en masse, besides being an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life,an aspect of Japanese cultural tradition that is often associated with Buddhistic influence, and which is embodied in the concept of mono no aware. The association of the cherry blossom with mono no aware dates back to 18th-century scholar Motoori Norinaga. The transience of the blossoms, the extreme beauty and quick death, has often been associated with mortality. There is at least one popular folk song, originally meant for the shakuhachi (bamboo flute), titled "Sakura"

In its colonial enterprises, imperial Japan often planted cherry trees as a means of "claiming occupied territory as Japanese space".

Loyal members of the Sakura Clan,

I hope you are all doing well Despite COVID. Despite things looking grim and our options to see one another in person are limited, let us take a moment to cherish what we do have.

Nearly 10 years have passed since we drew swords together and showed the Total War community our might.

Hey all, Sakura Members!!

Long time no see/speak... 3 years coming up believe it or not. I thought I would spend a few seconds letting you know I am ok - I am still alive!

I miss you guys literally more than playing any game on a £2,000+ system. I last left you guys just as I was moving cities... selling my rig (tear). My plan was to get a new system ASAP and then get back in the fray!! Alas this did not pan out - due to moving costs I had to put it off 6 months - then 6 months later something else made me delay even further. 3 years later I am in a fully furbished flat but with no room at all for a desktop system. Yet my GF has plenty of room for multiple clothing options!!

I still think about you guys alot and still long for when I move and will have enough space for my crazy creations.
Currently I am putting my GF of nearly 2 years through UNI (dating younger... oh yeah) and she still has one more year to go. She is not oblivious to my plight as I have told her many stories about all you crazy mofos. She knows I am a geek and she still loves me!!! I think?

I was so glad to see you guys meeting up and even on a holiday!! Yes I am ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jealous and wish I could be involved!

I currently am working in Admin and IT support up in Worcester UK. Not self employed anymore so cant sit around all day! Also I have said goodbye to cooking completely due to having a heart virus 2 years ago which made me have a heart attack that nealry made me respawn! OMG NERD JOKE!!!

Just wanted to let all of the group know I may be AFK but dont forget me - I will be back and with avengence.... I was always the best at the gaming stuff!!! (Shut up Paul)
