This is one of the many people that manages to make humanity seem that little bit brighter.

David Rathband was a Police Constable serving in the Northumbria Constabulary when a crazed gunman called Raoul Moat was on a rampage. Rathband was on duty at the time, but unfortunately was in the way of Raoul Moats path who shot him twice in the face, point black with a double barreled shotgun. Amazingly he escaped with his life, but lost his sight and had 200 pellets in his head. Whilst in emergency care he dedicated himself to ensuring no other Emergency Services worker would find themselvesin the same situation as him and founded the Blue Lamp Foundation.

However his blindness and trauma took a toll on his life, he was heavily shell-shocked and affected with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He sadly ended up splitting up with his wife and his tweets started to become more and more strange, suggesting he was depressed and just shows how, even as we move on, the mental scares of an event can still stick in someone's mind.

Earlier today the stress proved to much, and he took his own life, and finally he got the recognition he deserved with tributes flooding in from as far away as Australia, and the Prime Minister himself giving a word of thanks to the service of PC Rathband, I feel this is one of many people that prove the enduring power of the human spirit and i've supported his charity for a long time, and feel that his story needs to shown to as many people as possible so it doesn't simply wither away.

R.I.P David Rathband, your service both captured the hearts of our everyday heroes, but the United Kingdom as a whole.
