@ﾉにﾉイモ Liberalism in the American sense prioritizes equality, so it's more left leaning. Liberalism within the classical European framework is more centrist/moderate/center right.

American right wingers and conservatives think liberals are communists and socialists. Which is laughable, and goes to show how poor our education is in these red states.

Like Milton Friedman once said "A society that prioritises equality over freedom will get neither. A society that prioritises freedom over equality will get a high degree of both."
