Final Fantasy, the series that pretty much defines the RPG genre. Final Fantasy has brought us some of the most indepth and captivating stories that other RPGs still strive to achieve.

Final Fantasy XIII -- Now Available!

As most of you already know, Final Fantasy XIII was released this morning. I hope everyone is rushing to get their copy, if they haven't already! (I already have mine!)

For those of you wondering, Square announced some of the features that they have changed in XIII and it's actually quite a surprise. They announced that the gameplay is now more linear and story focused instead of being so open (boo!) and they also announced that there are no real towns and absolutely no stores in the game (you sell your items right from your menu). This is quite a huge change considering EVERY Final Fantasy title has featured these two points. Hopefully this will not drastically impact the game and change Final Fantasy forever, but only time will tell.

A side note, still no real news on FFXII Versus, hopefully there will be a hidden trailer of some sorts in the contents of FFXIII. Anyways, that's my small update, time to go play XIII!

So many goodies

It's been a pretty big quarter for Square Enix thus far with the release of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 and the remake for Final Fantasy IV released on the DS.

The biggest announcement of the year thus far is the multi-platform announcement for Final Fantasy XIII. This shocked a lot of fans due to the Final Fantasy series mostly being Sony exclusive. It really didn't come to a huge surprise for me since they have been porting their older games to DS for awhile now. Eventually it was going to happen and really it's only going to expand Square's popularity and hopefully expand the chance for a Final Fantasy VII remake! So far Final Fantasy XIII Versus still remains a Playstation 3 exclusive, so fanboys can rest easy about that.

They also announced Dissidia: Final Fantasy for the PSP, which apparently is a fighting game that features FF characters from each game. It looks interesting enough and I guess we have needed another FF fighting game since Ehrgeiz.

There's also another RPG (non-FF) that was announced for the 360 being made by Square called Infinite Undiscovery at e3. The screencaps and videos look pretty good, it's definitely worth checking out!
