This is a bad port. The original game supported analog controls for acceleration, braking, and steering; This port only supports digital controls, even if you're using an analog stick to play. There are some third-party modifications to correct this, so presumably SEGA could have fixed it years ago and didn't bother.

Track down the Dreamcast original. Whether you play on real hardware or an emulator, the botched controls on the port are no match for the original game.

The game is also unstable with some Proton versions, so make sure to use Proton 8.0-5 for best results, if you want to play this port on Linux. I have it running on my Steam Deck now and it plays fine, apart from the obvious problems everyone has due to the bad port.

The game's music has also been replaced due to licensing issues. While that doesn't affect playability, that does nerf the nostalgia a bit, so worth mentioning in a review...
