This year, the original EVE:Valkyrie would have turned 2 years old on March 28th. We reset the clock with the Warzone expansion, which launched on September 26th 2017. Since then even more players have joined the ranks of Valkyries both in VR and on flatscreen over the past year.

The dev team here at Newcastle have been busy creating a range of incredible new features that truly put the power in the hands of the community. We always try to cram our game updates chock-full of content, and this one is no exception. You will find the usual bullet point barrage of awesome new stuff below, with some links to expanded articles in case you want full details on all the good stuff.

For now, fill yourself a mug of festive cocoa, and get yourself ready for a Winter Holiday packed with community events, videos and new tech!


The new Custom Matches feature was made with our most dedicated players in mind. Players who want more control over what maps they play and ships they fly, as well as the option to create and manage their own balanced teams.

To enhance the fun and give players even more control, we’ve also added the option to alter many game mode settings. We’ve given Hosts control over a huge range of settings so they can fine tune the rules in new and creative ways.Custom Matches can be set to several privacy levels and passwords can be shared to make a Custom Match work across all platforms!

Sometimes in life you just want to sit back and enjoy the explosions😊. The new spectator cam will let you do just that! Join your friends in a private Custom Match or any public Custom Match and watch the battle unfold.


The new spectator interface allows you keep track of everything happening in the match, enabling you to instantly toggle between players, zoom, pan and rotate the cameras to get the best view of the action, or just simply hide the interface and watch some pure, unobstructed space combat.


This feature was developed with our streamers in mind. Now you have the tools to share your war stories beyond the cockpit!



With our Winter Update, you can now fight alongside the imposing vast structure of a moon refinery, and in amongst the asteroid belt surrounding it.

However, you’ll have to stay vigilant as the Refinery is an active structure, and continues to drill into the surface of a nearby moon.

This brings a new level of tactics for any game modes with objectives placed in its path, as now you’ll need to consider environmental danger in addition to enemy fire! Listen out for the countdown warning, and make sure you're clear of the laser when it fires.

We all know that there are few things in life better than climbing into the cockpit of your favorite space fighter and giving the Schism a good kicking, but after a few hours, you might find that your trigger finger's getting a little bit sore and you're in need of a little breather.

Right now all you can do in these circumstances is retire to the hangar to fiddle with your upgrades or maybe try out some new paint jobs, but as soon as the new Winter Update touches down you'll discover a whole new way to enjoy EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone, and that's Spectator Mode.

You've been requesting it for a long time, and we've been listening. Spectator Mode gives you the opportunity to drop into matches and simply watch the action unfold, and it comes with some great tools to give you the best possible view of every match without having to get your hands dirty.


There's no need for a big tutorial; it's designed to be as easy to get to grips with as your first Yurei. Once you connect to a match in Spectator Mode, you'll have full vision over the battlefield – much like the tactical map – with the ability to zoom and focus on a particular point of the battle. Then by selecting one of the in-game ships, you'll jump to a third-person camera tethered to it.

When you're in ship camera mode you'll naturally move around with the ship that you're attached to, but you can switch between assorted camera positions to get the best possible view, and of course, you can move the camera around to keep an eye on the action. With the left stick, you can orbit the ship, while with the right stick you can pan and zoom your view so that you never miss a trick.


If you'd prefer to watch a different ship, with one button press you can switch to another, ensuring that you never need to be far from the action. But if all that whizzing around gets a bit much, there's another Spectator Mode option you can try as well.

On top of the ship camera mode, there's an alternative hotspot mode. Here, rather than being anchored to a ship, you can jump between cameras set at fixed points around the map. They're carefully chosen as the places where the action's going to unfold in any particular game – relic sites, control points, carrier cores and so on – so you can be certain that you'll have the best seat in the house for those pivotal in-game moments.




Spectator Mode's the perfect way to cool your jets without having to drop out of Warzone and deal with the real world, but it's also the ideal environment in which to watch the best players duke it out, and learn some of their secrets at the same time. Plus, of course, it's an amazing tool for putting on your director's hat to record or broadcast some epic space battles for everyone else to enjoy; once you've enabled Spectator Mode then it's just a matter of turning on your preferred broadcast software and sharing your footage with the world.

We can't wait to see what you do with Spectator Mode, and to encourage your creative glands we'll soon be announcing a special video competition designed to get you out there and filming some hot Warzone action.

There's not long to wait until the Winter Update's ready for you to grab, and as well as Spectator Mode it'll also be bringing with it another much asked-for feature, Custom Matches, as well as the incredible new Moon Refinery map. We'll have more on those very soon; in the meantime, fly safe!

There’s no hiding the fact that it’s interesting times in the world of EVE: Valkyrie – Warzone right now. But you know what? We’ve been completely overwhelmed by all of the support that’s been flooding in from the community, not just online but in the real world as well.

The next few weeks are going to be amazing for the EVE: Valkyrie Community, so we reckon it’s high time we gave you a bit of an update. Here’s what’s going down!

We think you deserve a bit more information about the upcoming Winter Update. That’s right, we’re still working hard on it, it’s coming December 12th, and we know you’re going to love it.

There’s much coolness within, and we’ll go into more details over the next couple of weeks, but like a perfectly formed pineapple here are the bits that really stick out:

We announced that we had begun working on community tools at EVE Vegas and we had a great roundtable where we discussed the addition of these tools with attendees and remotley with our community via discord, and I’m delighted to announce that come December 12th, these tools will become a reality.


First up is the long-awaited introduction of custom matches. This has been a community request from day one, and we’re delighted to be able to make it a reality. No longer will you have to get what you’re given in the game rotation – if you have your heart set on a game of Extraction in Cathedral, you can set one up and invite your friends. And there’s a lot more to custom matches than that; we’ll take you through all the exciting options really soon.

Another feature that’s lined up for the Winter Update and something that has come up in many a community round-table is Spectator mode, because sometimes you just want to sit back and enjoy an epic space battle rather than have to strap yourself in and flex your trigger fingers. Spectator mode lets you do just that, but it also enables you to get cinematic and turn your spectator sessions into video shoots.
We’ve been putting a lot of thought and work into getting this right, and we can’t wait to see what you do with the tools we’re lining up for you. We even have a video creation competition coming up to encourage you to get your directing pants on; look out for more information soon.


There’s a new map coming, too! If you’ve been following what’s happening in the larger EVE: Online universe, you’ll have heard of the Lifeblood expansion. Amongst other things, Lifeblood adds moon mining to EVE: Online, and our new Moon Refinery map reflects this latest development. We’ve had an absolute blast building it; there’s some incredible stuff in there, and we’re certain it’s going quickly become a firm favorite for all of you.


Also winging it’s way into the Warzone on December 12 is Tobii and Track IR support. This community request evens the playing field for non-VR pilots by allowing head tracking while playing EVE: Valkyrie on a flatsceen monitor. The Valkyrie will be able to use comfortable head gestures to survey the battlefield like a VR player, without negatively impacting their ability to control their craft.

In addition, on December 12th, non-VR players will be able to take advantage of the head-tracked ‘look-to-lock’ missile functionality present in the VR experience of the game, meaning players can feel the gameplay enhancing benefits of VR along with the graphical fidelity and accessibility of flatscreen gaming. VR or not, the control will be yours.
