The generation of Guilty Gear before Strive. Xrd is a fully polished game that no longer gets updates, which in many ways is a plus. However, I have to state that you're only going to get games if you have other people you already know that are willing to run games with you. This is fine for me, I'm used to discord fighters. But assuming you're buying this off of steam, you're paying more than 20 dollars for an online game with almost nobody on it, and I can't recommend it without that caveat.

Otherwise? It's great. I had a few friends to play with and this is a nice in-between for the oldheads that love Accent Core and the people coming from Strive. The movesets are more complex, every character has different wakeup times and weights, and your meter is split into four quarters rather than two halves. Unlike Accent Core, however, Roman Cancels are closer to the unbound freeform nature of Strive's, and isn't too different in aesthetics, being the prototype for the animation style that Strive perfected. It is a beautiful game still, just perhaps a little rough around the edges when you compare the two.

Rollback had been introduced in an update, though it's not the best. I do appreciate the work Arcsys put into giving these older games the improved netcode, but there will still be problems if you're expecting it to be a perfect solution trying to play with friends overseas. That's all to be expected.

Depending on how much fishing you did in Strive, you'll recognise a number of the music tracks, all of them numbering some of my favourites, especially ones with vocals; I would put Xrd as probably the Guilty Gear with the most style. Besides the tracks you'll select, probably one of the best examples I have of this is Sol's Dragon Install completely overwriting the music with his own adrenaline-pumping theme, or if you beat up Ky enough he loses his hairband and similarly gets his own comeback music. They're hype moments in a can, and I love the game for it.

Just remember that you should only even think about this if you can convince some friends of yours to buy it with you. There are 49 people playing right now. Blazblue Centralfiction has 176, and that's already quite dead.
