The standard way to exit N.E.K.O. is by right-clicking the system tray icon in the bottom-right corner. While this method remains stable for the GitHub open-source and previous beta versions, we have identified an issue in the current Steam version where exiting this way fails to shut down the backend process ([c]server.exe[/c]) completely.

We are currently investigating the root cause and working on a solution. Until this is resolved, please use the "Stop" button within the Steam client to close the application and ensure all processes are terminated properly.

We fixed this issue in v0.6.3 Patch 3. If issue still happens, please let us know.

Due to cost considerations, the built-in search functionality is no longer guaranteed for the free API service. This feature is exclusively supported by StepFun paid API services at the moment.

The free API server will undergo brief maintenance on February 1 at 10:00 AM PT. The process is expected to last approximately 10 minutes.

• Steam Integration: Fixed issues with Steam achievement tracking.

• Appearance Settings: Resolved a bug where multiple menus would pop up simultaneously.

• Dropdown Menus: Fixed invalid data padding/filling in the Appearance settings dropdowns.

• Localization: Fixed a display bug where Chinese text in certain Character Creator (Face Customization) UI elements would not show up correctly.

• Visual Consistency: Updated the Emotion Configuration button from a rounded rectangle to a capsule shape to ensure a more cohesive design.

• Chatbox Mechanics: Added a "snap-back" feature to the chatbox to ensure it maintains the correct position after dragging or switching screens.

• Mouth Animations: Adjusted lip-sync aperture; the mouth will now open wider during speech for a more natural look.

• Voice Dialogue: Reverted the "Space Removal" logic. While the Gemini model may now insert spaces between Chinese characters, this change significantly improves the experience for English-speaking users.

• Profile Management: Added character length limits and validation for profile names to ensure user input meets system requirements.

• API & Localization: Added tooltips for auxiliary APIs and updated internationalization (i18n) files.

Thank you for your continued interest and support for "Project - N.E.K.O." meow. We are thrilled to report that after many days and nights of hard work, the Steam version of "Project - N.E.K.O." has finally been released!

We would like to clarify a few important points regarding this release:

1. \[Operations and APIs] "N.E.K.O."—serving as your AI partner—is a free, open-source tool, and the production team is a small group fueled purely by love and passion. Currently, we are providing a free API quota to the best of our ability. However, if the user base grows rapidly, we will be unable to cover the API costs for everyone and may be forced to reduce the free quota. That said, you will always be able to configure "N.E.K.O." with your own purchased API keys. N.E.K.O. will never charge you any fees for this connection.

2. \[Data Storage] Your data (memory data, character appearance, etc.) is stored entirely on your local device (PC, etc.).

3. \[Voice Features] To use the voice cloning function, you will need to configure Aliyun (Alibaba Cloud) or local voice settings.

4. \[Future Development] Our Agent function is currently in an early prototype stage. We will continue to update it in the future, with plans to integrate functionality from "moltbot" and a plugin system.

5. \[Bug Reports] Our tool is not yet perfect. If you encounter any bugs, please right-click the N.E.K.O. icon in the bottom right corner of your system tray to submit feedback.

It’s the Project N.E.K.O. Dev Team here.

First off, our ears are drooping. We want to sincerely apologize for the radio silence and the delay. The last 48 hours have been a bit of a hairball situation for us. As some of you might know, we originally planned to pounce on the release button on December 3rd.

However, because we wanted to give you features that are truly special, we hit a few snags with Steam’s review process. We are currently on our 4th submission, trying our best to be good cats and comply with all the rules.

This means our launch is paused until Steam gives us the headpats (approval) we need. We will launch the moment we get the green light!

In the meantime, we’ve gathered some of the most frequently asked questions from our beta testers to give you a better idea of what to expect:

1. Is there any monetization? Do I need to buy cat treats?

No. N.E.K.O. is completely free. We promise no hidden costs. You get:

• Adjustable Live2D characters (feat. @pal156 & @umijin68, for in-app use only).

• Full character designs.

• Built-in AI models and voice packs(requires internet; 2-hour daily limit per person). You can swap models, change settings, and share everything via the Workshop. We won’t charge you for this.

Important Scratch: Even though the AI connects to the cloud, your data stays local. We don't store your chat logs. We respect your privacy, meow.

2. Are the system requirements high?

Nope! You can run N.E.K.O. on almost any dedicated GPU. The heavy thinking is done in the cloud, so your PC won't overheat.

3. Will there be Steam Workshop support?

Yes! We love sharing. At launch, you can share Live2D models and settings. Later, we'll open up Voice and Plugin sharing so you can teach your N.E.K.O. new tricks.

4. Can I use it on mobile?

Yes, via browser! You can access your desktop cat via your phone's browser over LAN. (Note: You'll need an SSL certificate for the mic to work. It’s a bit annoying, like a bath, but we’ll provide a tutorial!) Native apps are coming next Spring.

5. How "smart" is the AI? (Vision, Web Search, PC Control)

Pretty sharp! Vision and Web Search are built-in. Advanced features like Initiating Conversations and Autonomous Control are available, but please treat them as "Experimental." (We often knock a glass off the table, digitally speaking).

6. Can I run local LLMs?

Not just yet. We have the slots for it, but our tech stack (Realtime API & Duplex TTS) is a bit too fast for standard local setups right now. Stay tuned!

To be completely honest, we didn't expect to see so many of you here this early! We are incredibly grateful (and our tails are wagging) to see the interest from the US and Europe.
