Does this game have a char creation feature where you can make your character, or at least pick from a male/female premade?

I do like this game a lot - I actually bought this game three times: 1 on Steam, 1 on GOG and 1 for my android tablet. I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I've replayed this game quite a number of times and have come close to finishing the story but never do because my characters die. That tells me that I'm distributing the points in some non-optimal way. I don't mind trying to experiment with where the points should go, it's just that the grind gets so painfully boring. It would register pressing buttons for a notification pop-up to appear (that the game is going to use controller and the mouse is disabled), but after that there's no way to press OK in the pop-up. Nothing on the controller works. What am I missing?

so ..... i spend many hours, to trigger hungry family event, but still it eternal pain, am i must play this game for the rest of my life OR there is something i may do ? if some one still here ....

When I have to defend the camp, sometimes it's not the usual monsters who appears (don't remember the name, "night crawlers" or something like that... Also the girl with the machine girl doesn't appear either... And I beat them, I have a black screen... I can hear the battle but see nothing......
