The best way I can describe this game is a point-and-click puzzle with body horror, mixed with gothic horror, mixed with whimsical fantasy, which I know sounds like three completely different genres but believe me, it works.

What elevates Fran Bow beyond a mere horror game however is its soul. It’s not just about jumpscares or building tension, it’s about empathy. It invites players to sit with its emotional weight, to reflect on Fran’s resilience and the universal human experience of grappling with pain. Upon finishing the game, I felt... odd. Like I needed to sit in silence and contemplate not just the story, but my own life and the quiet beauty of its small moments. This introspective quality is rare for me, even among indie gems, and it speaks to the care poured into the game by developers Killmonday Games.
