The devs are thinking about adding a difficulty option to the stages (Easy, Medium, Hard). But before they can do that, the current stages need to be balanced a little to reflect the same difficulty. I don't know about the later stages, but the first stage is very easy and needs only 1 tower to complete. But then the next stage is much longer and harder.
